FTS, Inc. is seeking a Software Test Engineer for a 6-12 month contract in the Washington, D.C. area. The role combines manual and automated testing across UI, APIs, microservices, and ETL data pipelines.

You will join an established QA team in Arlington, VA, contributing to test plans, writing and executing test cases, and building automated tests to run in CI/CD pipelines. Local candidates only.

Qualifications

Software Test Engineer (6-12 month Contract)

4 days remote / 1 day on-site

Position Overview

You will join an established IT/Quality Assurance team responsible for testing a next-generation enterprise application and supporting web-based interface. This role requires a strong mix of manual and automated testing across user interfaces, APIs, microservices, databases, and data pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, execute, and maintain test cases and contribute to overall test plans.
• Perform functional, system, integration, regression, and end-to-end testing.
• Test web applications, REST services, APIs, and microservices.
• Build and maintain automated test scripts across UI, API, and service layers.
• Execute automated tests within CI/CD pipelines.
• Validate REST API requests and responses, schemas, status codes, authentication, and error handling.
• Use service virtualization and mock services to test components independently.
• Create, modify, and reset test data to ensure tests are repeatable and reliable.
• Test and validate ETL pipelines and related data-processing workflows.
• Validate data across relational and NoSQL databases, including Azure SQL and Cosmos DB.
• Log, track, and manage defects through resolution using Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
• Clearly communicate defects, reproduction steps, test results, and supporting technical details.

Required:

• 5+ years of software quality assurance and testing experience.
• Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle.
• Hands-on experience with both manual and automated testing.
• Experience writing automation scripts using Selenium or comparable tools.
• Experience testing and reporting on ETL pipelines.
• Ability to create detailed test cases, contribute to test plans, and identify edge and negative scenarios.
• Experience with functional, system, integration, regression, and REST API testing.
• Hands-on database and SQL experience.
• Experience validating data across relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with test management and defect-tracking tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
• Familiarity with tools and frameworks such as Selenium, Postman, Playwright, or similar.
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines is strongly preferred.
