Job summary

3M is seeking a mid-senior level software test engineer to design, code, and maintain automated tests for server-side components and APIs. You will develop reusable automation frameworks and validation tools, and ensure security is integrated across design and implementation.

The role involves troubleshooting across hardware and software interfaces and collaborating with cross-functional teams. Required are a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a technical field and 7+ years of software development

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or related field (completed and verified).
  • Seven (7) years of software development experience including coding automated tests for server-side or backend systems.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or related field (completed and verified).
  • Experience testing APIs, services, databases, and distributed software systems.
  • Working knowledge of industrial automation protocols such as CIP, OPC-UA, and MQTT.
  • Experience with C/C++ and embedded applications.
  • Understanding of low-latency, time-critical network communications over Wi-Fi.
  • Ability to coordinate with external development resources.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, coding, and maintaining automated tests for server-side components, APIs, services, and integrations.
  • Developing and enhancing reusable automation frameworks, test utilities, mock services, and validation tools.
  • Applying security best practices across system design and implementation.
  • Troubleshooting and optimizing software performance, reliability, and interoperability across hardware and software interfaces.
  • Identifying, documenting, troubleshooting, and tracking defects with development teams.
  • Providing technical leadership on a cross-functional team and contributing to engineering best practices.

  • Provid ing technical leadership on a cross-functional team and contribute to engineering best practices appropriate for a mid-senior level role.
Your Skills and Expertise
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
  • Seven ( 7 ) years of software development experience including coding automated tests for server-side or backend software systems in a private, public, government or military environment
  • Master's degree in Computer Science , Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
  • Experience testing APIs, services, databases, and distributed software systems.
  • Have a working knowledge of industrial automation protocols such as CIP, OPC-UA, and MQTT.
  • Experience with C/C++ and embedded applications.
  • Understanding of low-latency, time-critical network communications over Wi-Fi
  • Ability to work effectively across a broad technology stack and to coordinate with external development resources.
  • P roficiency with AI software development tools
Work location:
  • Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
  • Travel: May include up to 10% domestic or international
  • Relocation: May be authorized
  • Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).

The expected compensation range for this position is $145,676 - $178,049, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience. In addition, this position may be eligible for a range of benefits (e.g., Medical, Dental & Vision, Health Savings Accounts, Health Care & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, Disability Benefits, Life Insurance, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences and Retirement Benefits, etc.).
