Job summary

3M is seeking a Senior Software Test Automation Engineer to design, code, and maintain automated tests for server-side components and APIs. You will develop reusable automation frameworks, ensure secure communications, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve performance and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and 7+ years of software development experience.
  • Experience coding automated tests for server-side or backend software.
  • Experience with APIs, services, databases, and distributed systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work across a broad technology stack.

Your Skills And Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
  • Seven (7) years of software development experience including coding automated tests for server-side or backend software systems in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
  • Experience testing APIs, services, databases, and distributed software systems.
  • Have a working knowledge of industrial automation protocols such as CIP, OPC-UA, and MQTT.
  • Experience with C/C++ and embedded applications.
  • Understanding of low-latency, time-critical network communications over Wi-Fi
  • Ability to work effectively across a broad technology stack and to coordinate with external development resources.
  • Proficiency with AI software development tools
Work location
  • Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
  • Travel: May include up to 10% domestic or international
  • Relocation: May be authorized

Applicable to US Applicants Only: The expected compensation range for this position is $145,676 - $178,049, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience. In addition, this position may be eligible for a range of benefits (e.g., Medical, Dental & Vision, Health Savings Accounts, Health Care & Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, Disability Benefits, Life Insurance, Voluntary Benefits, Paid Absences and Retirement Benefits, etc.).
