Work Arrangement: Primarily Remote with Quarterly Onsite Meetings
Location: Scranton, Pennsylvania Headquarters
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Software Developer to provide hands‑on technical leadership for a team of approximately eight full-stack software developers.
This is a true player‑coach opportunity. The Lead Software Developer will spend approximately 50% of their time actively designing, coding, reviewing, and troubleshooting applications, while using the remaining time to guide technical delivery, mentor developers, coordinate priorities, and ensure the team is building scalable, maintainable software.
The development environment is centered around C#, .NET, Microsoft Azure, and Angular. Because the entire team works across the full application stack, candidates must be comfortable leading both backend and frontend development—not solely specializing in one area.
The position is primarily remote, with travel to the corporate headquarters in Scranton, Pennsylvania approximately two to three times per quarter for planning, collaboration, and leadership meetings.
What You Will Do
- Lead a team of approximately eight full-stack software developers.
- Remain hands‑on with development approximately 50% of the time.
- Design, develop, test, and support enterprise applications using C#, .NET, Azure, Angular, TypeScript, APIs, and relational databases.
- Provide technical leadership across frontend, backend, cloud, integration, and data‑layer development.
- Translate business and product requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Lead application architecture, technical design, coding standards, and engineering best practices.
- Participate directly in complex feature development, troubleshooting, refactoring, and production issue resolution.
- Conduct code reviews and provide actionable feedback to improve code quality, security, performance, and maintainability.
- Mentor developers and help strengthen the team’s technical capabilities.
- Coordinate work assignments, development priorities, sprint commitments, and delivery timelines.
- Partner with product owners, business analysts, QA professionals, architects, DevOps engineers, and business stakeholders.
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, architectural concerns, and delivery blockers.
- Help modernize existing applications and services using current .NET, Azure, API, and frontend‑development practices.
- Improve automated testing, CI/CD processes, deployment consistency, logging, monitoring, and production reliability.
- Support the design and development of cloud‑based, API‑driven, and distributed application environments.
- Promote reusable components, clean architecture, secure development, and strong software engineering discipline.
- Participate in production support and serve as a senior escalation point for complex application issues.
- Provide leadership without becoming disconnected from the technology or day‑to‑day engineering work.
Required Experience
- Strong professional software development experience using C# and .NET.
- Experience building modern web applications with Angular and TypeScript.
- Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud‑based application environments.
- Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, backend services, and application integrations.
- Experience working across the full software‑development stack.
- Previous experience leading, mentoring, or providing technical direction to software developers.
- Ability and willingness to remain hands‑on with coding approximately half of the time.
- Strong understanding of object‑oriented programming, design patterns, clean architecture, and SOLID principles.
- Experience with relational databases, SQL, data access, and application‑performance optimization.
- Experience conducting code reviews and establishing development standards.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, source control, and modern DevOps practices.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging capabilities across frontend, backend, cloud, and database environments.
- Experience working within Agile or Scrum‑based delivery teams.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework Core, LINQ, and microservices.
- Experience with Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Service Bus, Storage, Key Vault, Application Insights, or similar Azure services.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or another CI/CD platform.
- Familiarity with containerization, Docker, Kubernetes, or distributed application architectures.
- Experience modernizing legacy .NET applications.
- Experience supporting high‑volume, business‑critical, or customer‑facing applications.
- Previous responsibility for a development team of approximately five to ten engineers.
- Experience balancing technical leadership, delivery oversight, mentorship, and hands‑on development.
What We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate is a strong senior‑level engineer who has progressed into technical leadership but still enjoys building software.
This person should be comfortable moving between writing code, reviewing architecture, mentoring developers, resolving production issues, and communicating delivery status to leadership. They must be able to provide direction without micromanaging and hold the team accountable without becoming removed from the technical work.
This is not a position for someone seeking a purely managerial role. The Lead Software Developer will remain deeply involved in application design and development and must be capable of contributing directly to the codebase.
Compensation and Work Schedule
The position offers a base salary of up to $160,000, depending on experience.
The role is primarily remote but requires attendance at the corporate headquarters in Scranton, Pennsylvania approximately two to three times per quarter. Candidates should be able and willing to travel to Scranton for scheduled team, planning, and leadership meetings.
