Job summary

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is seeking a Computer Specialist (Software) Levels 1–4 (TWU) to design, implement, enhance, and maintain software systems across varied levels of complexity at 2 Broadway, New York, NY 10004. The role supports the Information Technology department and offers a structured progression from Level I to IV.

Hours are 9:00 am–5:30 pm, with flexibility as required. The role is on-site in Manhattan, with responsibilities spanning database, OS, data

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree with relevant computer field credits and 2 years of software experience, including 1 year in a project leader role.
• High school diploma with 6 years of software experience and 1 year in a project leader role.
• Equivalency options allowed for up to two years of college, Master’s may substitute for 1 year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, enhance, and maintain software systems across multiple levels.
• Supervise or lead teams on complex software projects as required.
• Coordinate and direct data processing initiatives in a multi-programming environment.

Education

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in computer science or a related computer field and two years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience in computer systems development and analysis, applications programming, database administration, systems programming, data communications, including one year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time computer software experience as described in 1 above, including one year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project

Education and/or experience equivalent to 1 or 2 above. College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in 2 above on the basis that 60 semester credits from an accredited college is equated to one year of experience. A master's degree in computer science or a related computer field may be substituted for one year of the required experience in 1 or 2 above. However, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and at least one year of satisfactory full-time experience in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project
