Job description

Ford’s Research and Advanced Engineering team takes new ideas from theory to reality. Every day, we develop advanced energy management and propulsion technologies, create cutting-edge materials and manufacturing processes, and curate world-class cabin experiences that redefine what it means to drive a Ford., Join us in shaping the future of Ford Motor Company, as part of a global organization with exceptional colleagues in world-class facilities. As part of Ford Design, you’ll be at the cutting edge of Ford’s most strategically critical work, designing people and society’s needs into the heart of our next generation of products, services, and experiences.

In this position... We’re seeking a data-driven, technically curious Quality Engineer to lead quality improvement efforts across in-vehicle infotainment and connectivity systems, with a particular focus on infotainment systems, audio systems, and cluster systems, as well as connectivity including gateway modules, telematics modules, Ford mobile app, and the cloud. In this role, you will own key quality metrics, unify quality issue tracking across multiple data sources, and partner with cross-functional engineering and software teams to rapidly diagnose and resolve customer-impacting issues.

What you’ll do...

This role is built for someone who thrives on troubleshooting complex systems, is comfortable reading code and working directly with developers, and wants to use coding and connected vehicle data to drive measurable improvements in product quality and customer satisfaction.

  • Own and improve core quality metrics Repairs per 1000, Cost Per Unit (CPU), Cost Per Repair (CPR) and end-to-end (E2E) problem solving velocity through continuous monitoring, analysis, and improvement initiatives.
  • Lead a unified quality agenda, consolidating issues identified across diverse sources such as customer claims, DTC data, service turnaround speed, dealer special service handling, connected vehicle data, mobile app data, and warranty spend.
  • Conduct root-cause and Pareto analysis to identify the top contributors to infotainment, audio, and cluster failures, as well as connectivity issues across gateway modules, telematics modules, mobile app, and cloud services — across both early-life (low-time) and in-service (high-time) populations.
  • Use scripting and code review (e.g., Python, SQL) to pull, correlate, and analyze data across DTC logs, telematics/cloud data, mobile app logs, and connected vehicle telemetry — and translate findings into technical conversations with software/firmware/cloud developers.
  • Represent the quality function at internal and cross-team quality forums, presenting findings, status, and recommendations.
  • Drive timely resolution of priority items on the quality agenda, ensuring nothing critical falls through the cracks.
  • Assemble cross-functional support, proactively engaging peers and subject‑matter experts (including infotainment, connectivity, and cloud/mobile app developers) to accelerate resolution of customer‑facing issues.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce manual effort and streamline quality escalation management.
  • Maintain proper tracking and throughput on individual tickets in JIRA/QAI/IRIS.
  • Submit monthly quality reports with action plans and detailed status.
You’ll have...
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or similar.
  • 2+ years of hands‑on coding experience (Python, C, C++, or equivalent), including the ability to read/review code and logs well enough to have credible technical conversations with software, firmware, and cloud/backend engineers.
  • 2+ years of experience with engineering tools, databases, and defect tracking systems (Diagnostic Engineering Tool, IVS, VADR, JIRA).
  • 2+ years of experience with service tools/applications (e.g., FDRS, PTS, workshop manuals).
  • 2+ years of experience with quality methodologies (Root Cause Analysis, 8D, Fishbone, Is/Is Not, 5-Why).
  • 2+ years of experience collaborating across teams, including with upper management and peers.
Even better, you may have...
  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering or similar.
  • 2+ years of experience with software analysis/testing, CAN bus technology and tools (log review, root cause analysis), and/or Connectivity protocols relevant to telematics and gateway modules.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and/or Quality/Reliability tools (DoE, Taguchi Methods, FMEA); Green Belt or Black Belt certification a plus.
  • Solid grasp of infotainment, cluster, and vehicle connectivity architectures (gateway modules, telematics control units, mobile app integration, cloud backends).
  • Working knowledge of Ford quality tracking resources (GSAR, Datacubes, IRIS, SIMPSN, GCQIS, Quality.AI, etc.).
  • Familiarity with mobile app diagnostics and cloud service monitoring/logging tools.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to connect with a diverse group of stakeholders and multi‑functional teams, including software and cloud developers.
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands from multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to instill a quality/performance mentality across levels of the organization.
  • Resilience in adapting to new tools/processes while managing existing workload.
