Job summary

OpenAI’s Consumer Devices team is seeking a senior Software Security Architect to define security architecture for the next-generation operating system. You will work with hardware, firmware, privacy, and product teams to protect users, devices, and data.

This senior, hands-on role requires connecting OS internals with hardware-backed security, shaping trust models, and ensuring AI remains safe, private, and under user control.

Qualifications

• Experience designing or securing operating systems, kernels, embedded platforms, hypervisors, or other privileged systems software.
• Deep understanding of operating system internals: memory protection, process isolation, executable loading, device drivers, privilege boundaries.
• Experience building security architectures spanning hardware, firmware, OS, applications and cloud services.

Responsibilities

• Define the operating system security architecture, trust boundaries, and protections for sensitive user data.
• Collaborate with hardware security architects to integrate roots of trust and secure elements into the OS.
• Design foundational platform defenses: secure boot, code signing, attestation, secure updates, key protection, device recovery.
• Establish isolation and access controls across kernel, apps, services, and AI workloads.
• Define guardrails for how AI apps and agents access information, sensors, and context.
• Lead threat modeling and architecture reviews; translate threats into enforceable requirements.
• Prototype solutions, review security-critical code, and guide engineering through tradeoffs.
