Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Software Engineer, Quality and Developer Tools to design and own the validation systems for device software, from test frameworks to hardware-in-the-loop labs. You’ll build scalable tooling, integrate CI/CD, and partner with embedded and release infrastructure teams to ensure reliable, repeatable workflows for engineers and QA vendors, in a hybrid SF office.

Qualifications

• Experience with software quality, automation, and developer tooling.
• Experience building hardware-in-the-loop labs and test infrastructure.
• Proficiency in Python, C, C++, or Rust; strong Linux fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain a unified test framework across unit to end-to-end testing.
• Integrate test suites with Buildkite and manage release artifacts and notes.
• Plan and operate hardware-in-the-loop labs and device testing orchestration.
• Develop tools for API and firmware validation and bug-report workflows.
• Build dashboards and alerts for pass rates, stability, and release readiness.
• Enable QA vendors with clear procedures and tooling.
• Collaborate with embedded and systems software teams on testability and pipelines.
