Job summary

RTX’s Pratt & Whitney unit seeks a Sr. Software Quality Assurance Engineer to lead audits and ensure compliance across avionics software lifecycles.

You will approve software deliverables, support regulatory audits, and drive process improvements in a high-stakes environment with embedded C, ARINC, and Model-Based development tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in CS/EE with 8+ years in avionics software.
  • 5+ years with RTCA DO-178B/C, DO-330/331/332, ARP-4754, FAA SOI/TSO.
  • Experience defining and validating system/software requirements and architecture.
  • Extensive ARINC 429/661/664/615A, embedded C, debugging, hardware-software integration.
  • Development in Windows Visual Studio and Python, MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform audits to ensure software development/compliance with DO-178 standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Approve software planning documents and deliverables for military and commercial customers.
  • Execute the process assurance function for system lifecycle activities.
  • Support external audits by customers, regulators, and certification bodies.
  • Generate Software Quality Assurance records in a timely manner.

What You Will Do:
  • Perform audits and reviews to ensure that software development, verification and quality assurance activities comply with industry standards (e.g. DO-178B/DO-178C), contractual, applicable regulatory requirements, approved plans, procedures and standards.
  • Approve software planning documents and software deliverables for release to both military and commercial customers.
  • Execute the process assurance function for system lifecycle activities
  • Support external audits conducted by customers, regulatory authorities (e.g., FAA, TCCA) and certification bodies (e.g. AS9100 registrar)
  • Generate associated Software Quality Assurance records in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the development team to identify and resolve non-conformances and process deviations.
  • Drive process improvements and defects elimination within the Software Quality Assurance function.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, or a related field, and at least 8+ years of progressive experience as a Software Engineer or related role in the Avionics Industry or 5+ years of experience with an advanced degree.
  • Must possess at least 5 years of experience with RTCA DO-178B/C certification, DO-330, 331, 332, ARP-4754, FAA SOI and/or TSO certification for safety critical airworthy embedded systems.
  • Must possess at least 5 years of experience with defining, validating system/software requirements, application architecture prototyping, low-level design, and development.
  • Must possess at least 5 years of experience with ARINC communications including ARINC 429, 661, 664 and 615A; with at least 5 years of experience with Embedded C programming, debugging, troubleshooting, hardware-software system integration and Ethernet and ARINC communications.
  • Must possess at least 5 years of experience of Development in Microsoft Windows Visual Studio, VAPS Graphics, Human Machine Interface design, Python & Model based development using MATLAB Simulink.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Experience in Control Systems development and support
  • Solid track record of achieving results in a technical role
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, high pressure engineering environment
  • Prior experience developing software
  • Prior safety critical software development experience
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards such as DO178B
  • Outstanding cross discipline communication skills
  • Familiarity with jet engine control and diagnostic system architectures and control logic design
What We Offer:

Benefits Relocation Package

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD.

The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.

RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
