Job description

Software Functional Manager & Software Unit Test Engineer

AS&M has an exciting opportunity for a Software Functional Manager & Software Unit Test Engineer to join the team in Houston, Texas.

Responsibilities

  1. Serve as a Software Functional Manager (SFM) by interfacing with, collaborating with, and monitoring the Prime Contractor and collaborating with NASA Civil Servants to perform the following activities:
  2. Provide technical feedback on spacecraft products developed by the software contractor.
  3. Monitor the contractor work being done during the preparation for launch.
  4. Review code for errors to ensure proper adherence to code development process.
  5. Review code design documentation to ensure clear and correct design as per requirements.
  6. Review software Unit Tests to ensure processes were followed and Unit Tests fully test the functionality.
  7. Review Integration testing to ensure integration tests fully exercise the interfaces between domain code and code from other domains.
  8. Follow the software Verification campaign to ensure that the Verification tests pass and that they are sufficient to prove the functionality required of the target software.
  9. Follow and participate in the Validation campaign to prove that the data provided to the software produces the desired operation of that software.
  10. Advise and appraise through code reviews, requirement reviews, and any other relevant reviews.
  11. Negotiate and collaborate across multiple interdisciplinary teams.
  12. Provide status report to senior management as requested.
  13. Serve as a Software Unit Test Engineer.
  14. Collaborate with the software development team.
  15. Focus on taking a formal Unit Test Plan for the Orion Flight Software and creating a Google Test implementation.
  16. Determine if issues are related to Google Test Framework or flight code.
  17. Run Google Test suite after writing the tests and debug issues until the code runs properly successfully completes.
  18. Responsible for doing code reviews of C/C++ code to spot errors in the logic of the code.
  19. Work in an Agile, fast-paced environment.
  20. Remote work location available, however, quarterly travel to Houston and/or Denver for a week may be required.
  21. Perform other duties as requested or required by management.

Qualifications

  1. Proof of U.S. Citizenship required for this position.
  2. Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
  3. Requisition Qualifications:

  5. Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering and normally possess 5-10 years of related experience. License and certification may be required.
  6. Technical (General):
  7. Experience with the development of space systems requirements documents including functional requirements and verification success criteria.
  8. Proficiency with C/C++ coding and experience testing C/C++ classes and their associated methods.
  9. Experience leading a software development project across the full development life cycle.
  10. Experience with agile software development and tools including Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, git, slack, SharePoint.
  11. Experience with GitLab version control, configuration management, and issue tracking.
  12. Experience in risk assessment and implementation of risk reducing measures.
  13. Professional:
  14. Maintain a professional relationship with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors.
  15. Proficiency with team collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, Webex, Skype, SharePoint.
  16. Excellent communication, negotiation and coordination skills and strong customer service attitude.
  17. Effectively communicate across a wide range of technical disciplines, with vendors/contractors, direct customers and upper management.
  18. Experience working in and fostering a collaborative team environment.
  19. Ability to prepare written documents/presentations and to verbally present at various meetings.
  20. Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision.
  21. Work in a fast-paced, Agile environment.
  22. Can understand and absorb new concepts quickly.
  23. Self-starter and able to take initiative and work with little direction.

Requisition Preferences

  1. Experience writing and executing Unit Tests on the Google Test Framework or similar framework.
  2. Familiarity with GMock to perform tasks as a method of isolating the unit under test (UUT).
  3. Creativity is required as the code is sometimes written in such a way as to make Unit Testing difficult.
  4. Prior background in space or aerospace software is a plus.
  5. Knowledge of systems engineering principles and associated documentation.
  6. Knowledge of commonly used NASA concepts, practices, processes and procedures relating to mechanical systems.
  7. Experience working as part of an Integrated Product Team to develop and test safety-critical software.
  8. Experience with highly autonomous systems.
  9. Experience developing software across the full development life cycle.
  10. Experience with NPR 7150.2 or DO178 and other NASA or Commercial Airline software and systems engineering standards.
  11. Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI).
  12. Software project management experience.
  13. Safety Critical Human-Rated Software Development Processes.

Physical Requirements

  1. Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

  1. Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements
