Job summary

ZSG is seeking a Software Engineering Team Lead to drive a small production software team across the U.S. and Canada, mentoring engineers and coordinating shop-floor integration with MES and ERP systems.

This on-site role blends people leadership with hands-on C#/.NET development and industrial hardware familiarity. You’ll guide architecture, testing, DevOps, and security practices while partnering with manufacturing, controls, and operations teams to deliver reliable manufacturing applications

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• 3+ years leading technical teams or software development projects with mentoring experience.
• Proficient in C#/.NET and able to contribute technically.
• Experience integrating software with hardware such as PLCs and production equipment.
• Strong communication and collaboration with software engineers and plant personnel.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop software engineers with coaching and accountability.

On-site at an approved company division in one of the following locations*:

• Norfolk, NE
• Fort Payne, AL

*Other division locations in UT, SC, and IN and are subject for approval pending office availability. Candidates must live within commuting distance or be willing to relocate to any of these locations.

$117,000–$135,000 + ROA performance bonus and separate profit sharing

Schedule

Monday–Friday, normal business hours; infrequent travel

A Fortune 150 steel/steel products manufacturer is seeking a Software Engineering Team Lead who will help build next-generation manufacturing and production systems.

• This opportunity combines people leadership, C#/.NET development, and industrial equipment integration. You’ll lead a small production software team, mentor engineers, and connect shop-floor equipment with the applications and data systems that support manufacturing operations across the U.S. and Canada.
• The ideal candidate brings a strong software foundation, practical experience working with PLCs and industrial hardware, and a genuine interest in developing people.

What You’ll Do

• Lead, mentor, and develop software engineers through technical coaching, code reviews, clear expectations, and accountability.
• Design, develop, and support manufacturing applications using C#, .NET, and SQL Server.
• Integrate software with PLCs, sensors, cameras, HMIs, and production equipment.
• Connect manufacturing execution systems (MES), databases, ERP platforms, and cloud applications.
• Develop and support solutions using Ignition and/or Litmus.
• Partner with production, controls, automation, and operations teams to solve manufacturing challenges.
• Guide software architecture, testing, security, and DevOps practices.
• Support manufacturing data collection, visualization, and analytics.
• Help shape team growth and contribute to future hiring decisions.
• Uphold company safety practices in all work activities.

What You Bring

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• 3+ years leading technical teams or software development projects, with demonstrated experience mentoring people and holding teammates accountable.
• C#/.NET expertise sufficient to contribute technically and support other developers.
• Practical experience integrating software with hardware, PLCs, industrial devices, or production equipment.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both software engineers and plant personnel.
• Willingness to work on-site at an approved division and travel infrequently.

Manufacturing industry experience is preferred. Candidates from other equipment-focused industries are also encouraged to apply if they bring relevant software, hardware integration, and leadership experience.
