• Balance roadmap execution with operational escalations; protect team capacity while remaining responsive to production issues.
• Establish accountability for reliability, security, performance, and operational excellence; monitor and improve service health.
• Encourage modern software practices including AI-assisted tools, observability, and cloud-native architectures.
• Define and track engineering KPIs related to delivery, quality, reliability, engagement, and customer satisfaction.

Software Engineering Manager, Priority Based Budgeting

Tyler Technologies is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to join the Priority Based Budgeting engineering organization.

You will lead a team of software engineers responsible for evolving Tyler's Priority Based Budgeting platform, helping local governments and public sector organizations make data-driven budgeting decisions that directly impact their communities.

This role includes leadership responsibility for engineering resources across multiple geographic locations, requiring strong communication, coordination, and team-building skills.

You will partner closely with product management, architecture, and peer engineering teams to deliver high-quality software that serves Priority Based Budgeting customers across the country. Hybrid Work Policy: This position requires the candidate to be in the Yarmouth, ME office at least 3 days a week.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain a cohesive engineering culture across distributed teams by promoting communication, trust, accountability, and shared ownership of outcomes.
• Partner with product management, architecture, platform operations, and support to align development priorities with business goals and customer outcomes.
• Coach, mentor, and develop engineers through regular one-on-ones, performance evaluations, and career growth planning; foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and innovation.
• Drive adoption of Agile methodologies and DevOps practices to improve delivery velocity, quality, and operational reliability across the software development lifecycle.
• Balance roadmap execution with operational escalations; work with engineering peers to prioritize effectively and protect team capacity without sacrificing responsiveness to production issues.
• Establish accountability for application reliability, security, performance, and operational excellence, ensuring teams proactively monitor and improve service health.
• Encourage adoption of modern software engineering practices, including AI-assisted development tools, automation, observability, and cloud-native architectures.
• Define and track engineering metrics and KPIs related to delivery predictability, quality, reliability, employee engagement, and customer satisfaction; leverage data to identify trends, remove bottlenecks, and improve team performance.
• Contribute to the evolution of Priority Based Budgeting products and underlying platforms, including cloud modernization efforts.
• Champion process improvement initiatives across the team, including tooling enhancements, internal education programs, and engineering best practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field required.
• Experience leading software engineering teams, including coaching, mentoring, and developing engineers, with a demonstrated ability to deliver complex software projects and foster high-performing teams.
• Hands-on software engineering background with experience designing, building, and operating large-scale web applications. Ability to lead and contribute to technical discussions, architectural reviews, and engineering decision-making while empowering engineers and technical leads to drive implementation; familiarity with .NET, JavaScript, SQL Server, and AWS services is a plus.
• Strong understanding of DevOps principles and modern software delivery practices, including CI/CD pipeline design and operation.
• Experience working within an Agile framework (Scrum or similar) and solid familiarity with SDLC principles and methodologies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
• Proven ability to make sound, timely decisions and navigate complex organizational and technical challenges.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple workstreams simultaneously.
• Experience managing geographically distributed software engineering teams.

Salary will generally fall between $89,027 - $117,140 before adjustment for geographic differences. Recruiter can confirm if position is incentive eligible.
