Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead the next generation of safety-critical software used in aerospace systems. You will manage design, verification, and certification efforts, guiding cross-functional teams across hardware and software domains, and ensure on-time, within-budget program execution.

The role requires a strong technical background in DO-178C, EVM, and MS/PhD preferred, plus outstanding leadership and communication

Qualifications

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) required.
  • Advanced degree preferred; minimum 7 years of related experience if applied.
  • Proven leadership in software development projects with certification responsibilities.
  • Strong background in Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Hands-on DO-178C software development processes experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing software engineering team, fostering growth.
  • Drive architecture, design, and delivery of safety-critical software.
  • Own program execution with scope, schedule, and budget ownership.
  • Champion engineering excellence with best practices across development, verification, and certification.
  • Partner with leadership and customers to align solutions with mission goals.
  • Lead strategy and support bid/proposal activities and scope estimation.
  • Support hiring, workforce planning, and talent development.
  • Identify risks early and implement proactive mitigation.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as needed.
