Variad Corporation is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead an engineering team responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software systems. This is a full-time, remote role working with product, design, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions on schedule.

You will set technical direction, promote best practices for architecture and distributed services, and mentor engineers while driving process improvements and risk management.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in software development across modern languages, frameworks, and tools.
• Strong leadership and project management to guide engineering teams in delivering projects on schedule.
• Hands-on software design expertise including architecture, quality, scalability, and reliability.
• Experience with distributed systems including design, monitoring and cloud-based services.
• Mentor engineers, foster inclusive team environments, provide constructive feedback.
• Solid understanding of agile methodologies, SDLC, and DevOps practices such as CI/CD and automated testing.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Managerial or technical lead experience is strongly preferred.

Role Description

The Software Engineering Manager will lead an engineering team responsible fordesigning, developing, and maintaining software systems and services. Thisfull-time, remote role involves overseeing day-to-day engineering activities,including sprint planning, code reviews, technical guidance, and mentoring teammembers. The person in this role will collaborate with product, design, andother stakeholders to define requirements, prioritize work, and ensure timelydelivery of high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities include setting technical direction, driving best practicesfor software design and distributed systems, managing project timelines anddependencies, and promoting an inclusive, high-performance team culture. TheSoftware Engineering Manager will also be accountable for identifying processimprovements, managing risks, and supporting the professional development ofeach engineer on the team.

• Solid understanding of agile methodologies, software development lifecycle, and DevOps practices such as CI/CD and automated testing.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience in a managerial or technical lead role within a software engineering organization is strongly preferred.
