Overview

Two Barrels is looking for a Software Engineering Manager. In this hands-on leadership role, you’ll roll up your sleeves and dive into the code with your team, designing, developing, and maintaining complex software applications. You won’t just manage from the sidelines—you’ll be directly involved in technical projects, collaborating with your team on coding, design, and troubleshooting, all while leading by example. You’ll be there to guide your team, helping them grow into their best selves both as engineers and people, fostering a culture of trust, accountability, and collaboration. At the same time, you’ll ensure the smooth delivery of software to users, offering support and training when needed, and celebrating the victories that come from a job well done. Your focus will be on leading initiatives and driving the team on our Core Systems, requiring a mix of deep expertise and a willingness to jump into different areas across the organization, doing whatever it takes to get the job done.

Location: Remote | Spokane, WA | Salt Lake City, UT | Austin, TX

Duration: Full Time

Wage: Up to $185,000/ Year

Responsibilities:

1. Lead 4-8 engineers across 1-2 teams, responsible for their productivity, delivery, morale, and success.
2. Align individual and business goals through performance reviews, talent alignment, and regular one-on-ones.
3. Manage and upgrade Core Systems as part of the software platform.
4. Design, develop, and maintain applications, ensuring high-quality data architecture and adherence to specifications.
5. Handle application modifications, custom programming, and performance optimization.
6. Address complex technical challenges, ensuring solutions meet design and performance standards.
7. Maintain software quality through testing and ongoing development in Ruby on Rails.
8. Ensure the delivery and continuous improvement of high-quality software products.
9. Make final decisions on technical issues within their domain.

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• At least 5 years of experience in full stack web application development.
• Strong experience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and relational/noSQL databases.
• 4+ years experience with web frameworks like Rails, Laravel, Django, etc.
• Experience leading an engineering team, including scrum ceremonies, deployments, and code reviews.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and build scalable solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of security principles for e-commerce applications.
• Proactive in driving positive change and aligning with data initiatives.
