Job summary

Onyx leads a team of engineers and data scientists to design, develop, and deploy scalable software solutions. You will oversee the full SDLC, ensuring technical excellence and adherence to best practices using Python, React.js, AWS, and Azure.

You will mentor engineers, drive performance reviews, and shape the technical roadmap while collaborating with product, design, and operations. Remote work from the U.S. is possible with a hybrid/remote setup.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or closely related field.
• Four years of experience in any software development role.
• Four years of programming experience with Python, React.js, AWS, and Azure.
• Four years of experience with HL7 FHIR (Fast Health Interoperability Resources) for deep health payers.
• Two years of experience implementing secure authentication protocols (such as OAuth2 and OpenID Connect).
• Demonstrated understanding of relational database PostgreSQL and NoSQL database MongoDB.
• Demonstrated experience with agile development practices and CI/CD pipelines.

• Act as liaison between engineering, data science, and other departments; contribute to technical roadmap.
• Participate in strategic discussions and own the technical roadmap.

About the Role

Lead a team of software engineers and data scientists in designing, developing, and deploying robust software solutions. Oversee the full software development life cycle, ensuring technical excellence, adhering to best practices, and driving software projects that leverage modern technologies including Python, React.js, AWS, Azure, OAuth2, OpenID Connect, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a team of software engineers and data scientists, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
• Conduct performance evaluations, career development planning, and technical training sessions.
• Promote best practices in software development, agile methodologies, and continuous integration/deployment.
• Oversee the design, development, testing, and deployment of software projects.
• Collaborate with product, design, and operations teams to align engineering efforts with business goals.
• Ensure adherence to secure coding practices, leveraging OAuth2 and OpenID Connect for authentication and authorization.
• Guide architecture decisions and technology strategy to build scalable, maintainable, and secure systems.
• Lead the implementation of backend services using Python and frontend development with React.js.
• Oversee cloud deployments using AWS and Azure, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Direct the design and management of data storage solutions using PostgreSQL for relational data and MongoDB for NoSQL requirements.
• Ensure data integrity, efficient querying, and robust backup and recovery procedures.
• Act as a liaison between engineering teams, data science teams, and other departments, communicating project status and technical challenges.
• Participate in high-level strategy discussions and contribute to the overall technical roadmap of Onyx.
• Supervise three (3) direct reports: Data Scientists and Software Engineers.
