Job summary

Viam, a robotics software platform based in New York City, seeks a software engineering intern to work across the stack on unique robotics and cloud computing challenges. You will be fully integrated with a full-time engineering team and paired with a dedicated mentor for hands-on learning.

The role requires pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS/CE/Robotics with at least one term remaining after the internship, and a strong foundation in CS fundamentals.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or related field, with at least one additional term after the internship.
• Available to intern in person at our New York City office for 10-12 weeks during the summer of 2027.
• Strong foundation in CS fundamentals including algorithms, data structures, architecture and robotics.
• Experience with various programming languages and modern stacks.

About Viam

Founded by Eliot Horowitz, co-founder and former CTO of MongoDB, Viam is a novel robotics engineering platform that lets you configure, control, and manage robots intuitively and quickly. We're inspiring a generation of engineers to solve complicated automation problems with our uniquely powerful suite of software tools. We're a ~100-person company headquartered in New York City. Viam's products are built by engineers, for engineers. We want to build a platform we would want to use ourselves. We are looking for students studying computer science or related fields to collaborate with our full-time engineers on building out the software for our platform. Our current tech stack consists of Golang (backend), ES.Next/TypeScript/Svelte/Vue.js (frontend), Linux, MongoDB (database), and a variety of hardware. This is a software engineering internship, not hardware.

You'll be:

• Working across the stack on the new and unique problems in robotics and cloud computing
• Fully integrated with the full-time engineering organization, matched to a specific team with an assigned mentor
• Using state of the art technologies that best tackle our problems at hand
• Learning engineering best practices in real-world production environments
• Playing with robotics hardware to test out the software we build

We're looking for someone who:

• In the process of receiving a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or related field, with at least one additional term after the end of the internship
• Available to intern in person at our New York City office for 10-12 weeks during the summer of 2027
• Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals including algorithms, data structures, architecture and/or robotics
• Experience with various programming languages
