Job summary

TriMas Packaging LLC is seeking a Software Engineering Intern to design and build a data ingest and FP&A analysis tool. You will work on ingestion from Excel, CSV, PDFs, and ERP exports, standardize data, and generate automated insights and variance analysis for decision-making.

The role involves building ETL pipelines, data models, and dashboards, with collaboration across finance and IS teams. This is an on-site, part-time internship with 15–20 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • This role requires strong programming and data processing ability.
  • Experience with file parsing and data standardization is preferred.
  • Knowledge of FP&A concepts and SQL is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop a system to extract, transform, and load financial data from diverse sources.
  • Build models to normalize data formats and map accounts across datasets.
  • Develop functionality to compare statements and identify variances.
  • Highlight anomalies and implement data validation and reconciliation logic.
  • Create dashboards and automated reports (Power BI / web app).
  • Integrate with Excel, Power BI, and ERP systems; ensure scalability and accuracy.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Position Summary

We are seeking an Software EngineeringIntern to help design and build a solution that ingests financial data frommultiple file formats (e.g., Excel, CSV, PDFs, ERP exports), standardizes thedata, and generates automated comparisons, insights, and variance analysis.This tool will support financial planning and analysis (FP&A) processes andimprove decision-making efficiency.


Key Responsibilities


  • Design and develop a system toextract, transform, and load financial data from diverse sources

  • Build models to:

    • Normalize inconsistent dataformats

    • Map accounts across differentdatasets



  • Develop functionality to:

    • Compare financial statements(actuals vs budget, forecast vs prior, etc.)

    • Identify variances and keydrivers

    • Highlight anomalies orinconsistencies

    • Implement data validation andreconciliation logic



  • Create user-friendly outputssuch as:

    • Dashboards (Power BI / webapp)

    • Automated reports

    • Summary insights



  • Integrate with existing tools(e.g., Excel, Power BI, ERP systems)

  • Ensure scalability,performance, and data accuracy

  • Collaborate with financestakeholders to refine business logic and requirements


This position is an onsite, part-time role. Expected hours are 15-20 hours per week.

Qualifications


  • Strong programming skills

  • Experience with:

    • Data processing libraries

    • File parsing (Excel, CSV, PDFextraction)



  • Knowledge of machine learningor AI techniques (for classification, anomaly detection, or mapping)

  • Understanding of financialstatements and FP&A processes

  • Experience with databases (SQL,data warehouses)

  • Knowledge of automationframeworks or RPA tools

  • Experience building internaltools or analytics products
