Senior Vice President Software Engineer - Controls Engineering - Global Banking & Markets - Dallas location_on Dallas, Texas, United States

Controls Engineering – Global Banking & Markets - Vice President

Controls engineering is responsible for building the next-generation firm-wide control plane for our front office desks. The successful candidate will use their deep technical skills to implement a highly scalable message-driven architecture, processing approximately 3 billion messages per day, and making ‘safe to trade’ determinations in real time. The role also involves developing web applications that enable users to register, develop, and administer controls on the platform.

Role Overview:

This role offers the opportunity to work in a competitive and nimble team, implementing high-performance code using open-source libraries. Candidates will collaborate directly with stakeholders, including product managers and Global Banking & Markets risk managers, to improve our controls data platform. The team is based in London and India, focusing on control data solutions for Global Banking & Markets Operational Risk and delivering new features.

1. Use data to guide decision-making, developing or enhancing tools to collect relevant data.
2. Understand market rules, regulations, exchange offerings, and front-to-back business functions to build supportive systems.
3. Communicate with traders, sales, clients, and compliance officers regarding new systems, feature requests, and explanations of existing features.
4. Elevate solution design standards and ensure best practices are followed within delivery teams.

JOB DUTIES:

1. Manage the execution of engineering projects and establish processes to ensure high-quality solutions. Proactively identify and mitigate risks for smooth project delivery.
2. Collaborate with engineering leadership, developers, and operations through written and verbal presentations.
3. Drive continuous improvements in engineering practices, architecture, and operational excellence.
4. Contribute to SDLC documentation, templates, patterns, and controls.
5. Lead, mentor, and coach a team of Software Engineers, fostering career development.
6. Participate as a member of a global team on larger projects, assuming responsibilities for specific components as needed.

Minimum Education Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree (US or UK foreign equivalent) in STEM, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields such as Finance or Quantitative Economics.

Minimum Experience:

• 15 years in software engineering, with at least 6 years in a relevant role.

Special Skills and Licenses:

Must include at least 6 years of experience with:

• Software engineering principles and practices
• Proficiency in at least two high-level programming languages such as Java or Python
• Knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and enterprise applications
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to stakeholders
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills
• Ability to solve high-performance engineering problems language-agnostically

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Kubernetes deployment architectures
• Experience building trading controls within investment banking
• Knowledge of NoSQL databases (Mongo, Elastic, Hadoop), in-memory solutions (MEMSQL, Ignite), cloud platforms (Snowflake), and relational databases (DB2, SybaseIQ)
• Experience with data-driven performance analysis and optimization
