Job summary

Publix Technology is seeking a Software Engineer to modernize our warehousing systems. You will design and implement scalable solutions across 9 distribution centers and 33 warehouses, leveraging .NET, Python, Angular/React, and Azure cloud services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on .NET, Python, and modern web app development.
  • 3+ years ASP.NET Core with Swagger/OpenAPI.
  • 2+ years SQL Server & EF Core performance tuning.
  • Experience with Azure cloud services and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Agile/Scrum collaboration and strong communication skills.
  • Familiarity with AI tooling and cloud-native architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop enterprise-grade technology solutions with modern methodologies and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Analyze requirements and translate into software designs and backlog items.
  • Collaborate with Architecture and Leads to ensure enterprise alignment.
  • Partner with analysts and product owners to validate requirements.
  • Develop and automate unit tests and testing artifacts.

The Warehousing Modernization team is currently seeking a Software Engineer for modernizing Publix legacy warehousing systems. This role involves participating in initiatives to modernize warehousing processes such as Invoicing, Store Order Processing, Warehouse Auditing, integrating with other Warehousing Systems, and Reporting that supports our expanding distribution network, encompassing 9 Distribution Centers and 33 warehouses serving over 1200 retail stores.

Location: Hybrid (Lakeland, FL). To support our hybrid work model, candidates must reside, or be willing to relocate, within a commutable distance of Lakeland, FL.

Your Impact
  • Design and develop enterprise-grade technology solutions using modern methodologies (Agile and traditional) ensuring performance, scalability, stability, usability, and cross-system integration while leveraging CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps, GitHub, etc.).
  • Analyze business and system requirements, user stories, and technical design artifacts to develop internal designs, program specifications, and product backlog items under guidance.
  • Collaborate with Architecture and Technical Leads to ensure alignment with enterprise standards, best practices, and solution designs.
  • Partner with Business Systems Analysts and Product Owners to validate business requirements and support solution delivery.
  • Develop, maintain, and automate unit test plans, test scripts, and test cases to ensure application quality and reliability.
  • Utilize development tools, including AI, and environments to efficiently code, unit test, debug, and manage application components throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including solution designs, program specifications, and testing results.
  • Plan, coordinate, and support the deployment of technical solutions from testing environments to production under established guidance.
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve moderately complex application and production issues, escalating when appropriate.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to support production systems and ensure operational continuity.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related analytical field or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience developing applications using .NET technologies (C#, RESTful APIs, .NET Services), Python, and building responsive web applications with Angular, React, or Blazor.
  • 3+ years’ experience designing and implementing solutions using ASP.NET Core, including proficiency with API documentation tools such as Swagger/Open API.
  • 2+ years’ experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Entity Framework Core, including designing normalized schemas, writing complex queries, and optimizing database performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code with strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, Microsoft Azure or similar (App Services, Azure SQL, Azure Functions), including deployment, management, and monitoring of applications.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working with AI tools and methodologies such as GitHub Copilot, Claude code, and M365 Copilot.
  • Proficiency in source control and DevOps practices, including Git (branching, merging, pull requests) and designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Spark declarative pipelines (Databricks declarative pipeline patterns; formerly DLT/Delta Live Tables) including expectations-style rules and incremental processing.
  • Experience in designing, provisioning, and managing cloud infrastructure, preferably on Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes, utilizing Terraform modules and best practices.
  • Knowledgeable in automated testing, build, and deployment strategies for .NET and containerized applications.
  • Knowledgeable with cloud platforms such as Azure and GCP, and Kubernetes.

Year End Bonus

As a year-end bonus to associates, Publix issues one month’s extra pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check that year. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.
