Job summary

Visa in Austin, TX is seeking an experienced software engineer for the Ecosystem & Operational Risk technology team. You will help design and deliver data-driven risk solutions, collaborating across product, architects, analysts, and developers to drive end-to-end delivery.

You will work with Java/J2EE, REST APIs, Spring, and modern DevOps tools, including GenAI capabilities, to mitigate fraud and enable scalable risk services.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree, or 5+ years with an Advanced Degree, or 2 years with a PhD.
• Strong design and coding skills with Java/J2EE.
• Experience with REST APIs and multi-tier web applications.

The Ecosystem & Operational Risk team is responsible for building critical risk and fraud detection services at Visa. This includes idea generation, architecture, design, development, and testing of products, applications, and services that provide solutions to detect, prevent, and mitigate fraud for Visa and its clients.

All roles require digital fluency, including the ability to work with emerging technologies such as Generative AI tools (e.g. ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude code) to support everyday work.

Essential Functions

• Identify appropriate technical solutions and designs that will best prepare the company to meet present and future business objectives.
• Collaborate with project team members (Product Managers, Architects, Analysts, Developers, Project Managers, etc.) to ensure development and implementation of new data driven business solutions.
• Drive development effort End-to-End for on-time delivery of high-quality solutions that conform to requirements, conform to the architectural vision, and comply with all applicable standards. Responsibilities span all phases of solution development.
• Collaborate with senior technical staff and PM to identify, document, plan contingency, track and manage risks and issues until all are resolved.
• Present technical solutions, capabilities, considerations, and features in business terms. Effectively communicate status, issues, and risks in a precise and timely manner.
• Engagement in requirements definition and clarification in collaboration with Business to ensure completeness and common understanding of the business needs is important.

Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• 8 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications

• 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
• Strong design and coding skills with Java/J2EE.
• Mandatory experience with n-tier web application development and REST API’s.
• Solid experience in frameworks like Spring or Spring Boot.
• Working experience with Kafka, Redis, or NoSQL datastores is a plus.
• Experience with GenAI tools and frameworks, including LLM-based development and tools such as Claude Code or similar AI-assisted coding platforms.
• Hands on experience with database technologies like MySQL, DB2, Oracle.
• Knowledge of Unix/Linux and working in a shell environment.
• Experience with Continuous Integration & Development and automation tools such as Jenkins, Artifactory, Git etc.
• Experience with Agile and Test-Driven Development methodology.
• Strong analytical skills with excellent problem-solving ability.
• Ability to present complex ideas in a clear, concise way.

Information for US Applicants

For roles located in the US, the estimated salary range for this position is $152,200.00 to $ 243,700.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
