Franklin Templeton in Baltimore is seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join the Enterprise Data, Governance & Integration Platforms Engineering team. You will design, build, and maintain cloud-native data services using Python and AWS, delivering scalable data pipelines and platforms.

This role emphasizes collaboration with architects, data and AI engineers, and product teams, with a hybrid work schedule three days per week at our Baltimore location.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering experience in data platforms or cloud-native apps.
• Strong Python development with OO design and testing.
• 2+ years AWS experience with S3, Lambda, Glue, EMR, ECS/EKS, EventBridge, Kinesis, Step Functions.
• Experience building reusable frameworks, APIs, libraries, SDKs, or shared platform services.
• Knowledge of distributed systems, event-driven data processing.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD, IaC and deployment automation (GitLab, Terraform).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration.

Responsibilities

About The Department

The Enterprise Data, Governance & Integration Platforms Engineering team builds and manages foundational data, API, integration, and application platforms that enable scalable, secure, and reliable data, analytics, AI, and business solutions across the enterprise.

The team develops cloud-native services, reusable engineering frameworks, APIs, and platform capabilities using AWS, Azure, modern software engineering practices, CI/CD automation, and AI-assisted development. We partner with data, analytics, application development, infrastructure, security, governance, and AI teams to deliver enterprise-scale platform capabilities and cloud-native solutions.

How You Will Add Value

• You will design, develop, test, and maintain reusable data engineering frameworks, APIs, SDKs, and platform services using Python and AWS.
• You will build scalable cloud-native components supporting batch, real-time, and event-driven data processing.
• You will develop configurable frameworks for data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and delivery across structured and unstructured data sources.
• You will contribute to enterprise Data Lake and event-driven platform capabilities that enable reusable and self-service engineering patterns.
• You will develop and maintain automated delivery pipelines using GitLab CI/CD, Terraform, and Infrastructure as Code.
• You will apply software engineering best practices for automated testing, security, observability, performance, reliability, and production support, including troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
• You will develop technical documentation, reusable patterns, examples, and onboarding guidance that enable engineering teams to effectively adopt platform capabilities.
• You will leverage AI-assisted development tools and coding agents to improve software development, testing, debugging, documentation, and engineering productivity while maintaining enterprise security, governance, and quality standards.
• You will collaborate with architects, data engineers, AI engineers, application teams, product teams, and other stakeholders to translate business and technical requirements into scalable solutions.
• You will communicate and present technical designs, platform capabilities, demonstrations, and implementation approaches clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• You will participate actively in design reviews, technical discussions, demonstrations, and knowledge-sharing sessions while taking ownership of assigned capabilities from development through production support.

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering experience, preferably in data platforms, backend development, platform engineering, frameworks, or cloud-native application development.
• Strong hands-on development experience with Python, including object-oriented programming, software design principles, testing, and reusable component development.
• 2+ years of hands-on AWS experience building cloud-native solutions using services such as S3, Lambda, Glue, EMR, ECS/EKS, EventBridge, Kinesis, Step Functions, or similar technologies.
• Experience developing reusable frameworks, APIs, libraries, SDKs, or shared platform services.
• Understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, data processing patterns, scalability, and performance considerations.
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and deployment automation; GitLab and Terraform experience is preferred.
• Experience with automated testing, troubleshooting, monitoring, and supporting applications or platform services in production environments.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder collaboration skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts, present solutions and demonstrations, and work effectively with engineering, architecture, product, security, infrastructure, and business stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to take ownership of technical deliverables from development through production.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AWS services such as EMR Serverless, Athena, Lake Formation, DynamoDB, OpenSearch, or Bedrock.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, ECS/EKS, and microservices architectures.
• Experience with real-time and event-driven technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis, or EventBridge.
• Experience with workflow orchestration technologies such as Airflow or Step Functions.
• Familiarity with Java as a secondary programming language.
• Experience with observability technologies such as CloudWatch, Datadog, OpenSearch, or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants, coding agents, AI-enabled development workflows, and Agentic AI concepts.
• Experience contributing to reusable internal engineering frameworks, shared libraries, or inner-source/open-source projects.
• AWS certifications are a plus.

Work Schedule & Location

This role will work a hybrid schedule three days per week in our Franklin Templeton location, Baltimore.
