Job summary

Iron EagleX (IEX), a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), delivers agile IT and Intelligence solutions. The Software Engineer-Mid will support U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) at MacDill AFB in Tampa, Florida.

The role focuses on designing and maintaining backend systems with Python or JavaScript/TypeScript, building APIs, and applying DevSecOps practices to ensure secure, efficient operations for national security missions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
• 5+ years of software development experience.
• US citizenship and current DoD eligibility; Top Secret/SCI clearance preferred at time of hire.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Software Engineer-Mid will support U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) located at MacDill AFB (Tampa), Florida.

JOB DUTIES (INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO)

As a Software Engineer, you will design and maintain data-driven backend systems to provide secure, high-performance search and analytics capabilities, with a focus on supporting U.S. national security missions. This role involves developing applications using Python or JavaScript/TypeScript; for Python, the Streamlit library is preferred, while React is used for JavaScript/TypeScript projects. You will develop backend services for data ingestion and retrieval, design APIs and microservices using Python Flask or FastAPI, and implement DevSecOps practices such as CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code. Additionally, a crucial part of the job involves conducting Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) on Commercially Available Information (CAI), Publicly Available Information (PAI), and other datasets. Data is stored in Postgres databases and can be accessed via SQLAlchemy. Expertise in backend programming languages such as Python, Go, or Java, experience with search and data systems, cloud infrastructure (AWS), container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), and DevSecOps practices are essential.

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Proficient in JavaScript/TypeScript React and Python.
• Proficient in Flask or FastAPI and familiar with relational/non-relational databases including Postgres and Elasticsearch.
• Proficient with Git, SQLAlchemy, and basic CI/CD pipeline support.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

• Clearance: Current DoW TS/SCI Clearance is required.
• Experience: 5 years of related software development experience.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Certifications: None required; familiarity with AWS, Docker, and DevSecOps tools is preferred.
• Role requirements: 5 days on-site
• Due to US Government Contract Requirements, only US Citizens are eligible for this role

The likely salary range for this position is $106,250 - $143,750. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
