Job summary

Fleetio is seeking a product-minded Software Engineer for the Marketplace Team to build features that connect customers with maintenance shops, enable service workflows, approvals, transactions, and fleet data entry.

You will partner with Product Managers, Designers, and other Engineers to deliver well-tested, scalable code, contribute to architecture decisions, and ship high-quality software in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience with Ruby on Rails, React, and/or Typescript.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design and relational databases (PostgreSQL).
• Experience solving architecture problems with good design.
• Experience with unit testing frameworks.
• Excellent written communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to mentor others and balance tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

• Build features for Fleetio Marketplace that connect customers to maintenance shops and support service workflows.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to deliver high-quality, scalable software.
• Contribute to architecture discussions and write well-tested code; review peers' work.
• Prototype and spike ideas to validate technical feasibility and drive delivery.

Fleetio is looking for a product-minded and team-oriented Software Engineer who is committed to consistently delivering quality software to join our Marketplace Engineering Team.

Fleetio’s Marketplace is a comprehensive platform that facilitates our customers easily finding and purchasing a wide range of products and services essential to their fleet operations. Our shop integrations allows our customers to efficiently manage external maintenance activities and get insight into service data. Our payment solution helps Fleet Managers to efficiently manage service work, and provide simple and hassle-free ways to make payments. We also help vendors keep shop details current and monitor received payments from Fleetio customer transactions all in one place. Learn more about how our shop integrations work here.

In this role on the Marketplace Team, you will be responsible for writing maintainable code while implementing new features with an emphasis on connecting customers to maintenance shops, facilitating service, approvals, transactions, billing, and data entry for fleets.

Who You Are

Our ideal candidate has a passion for and experience collaborating with others and solving business problems with good design, delightful UX, and scalable architecture. You are detail-oriented, proactive, and thrive in a fast-paced environment where you can make a significant impact. You have experience planning, designing, and building solutions with cross-functional partners such as Product Managers, Designers, and Quality Engineers. Your ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with others is key to your success. This role is part of the Engineering department and you will report to the Web Engineering Manager.

Your impact

You will take part in planning, designing, and implementing features to build out our Marketplace offering, and facilitate outsourced maintenance and payments for vendors and customers. You will collaborate closely with Product Managers, Designers, and other Engineers to consistently deliver high-quality software. You will engage in collaborative design and architecture of features. You will deliver well-tested, maintainable, and performant code. You will research, implement prototypes and spikes as necessary to validate assumptions and technical feasibility. You will possess a strong voice in the development and planning processes. You will thoroughly review your peers’ code to ensure quality, consistency and to share knowledge.

Your experience

• 2+ years experience with Ruby on Rails, React, and/or Typescript
• A firm understanding of object-oriented programming and relational databases, such as PostgreSQL
• Solid experience solving challenging architecture problems with good design
• Experience with unit testing frameworks
• Excellent communication skills (particularly written)
• An eye for detail and quality, and the ability to make tradeoffs
• Considered a plus
• Expertise with data modeling and optimizing query performance
• Experience leading small teams/projects
• You know a thing or two about the fleet management industry
• Previous experience building APIs for consumer/mobile app consumption
• Previous experience integrating external APIs
• Previous experience building two-sided marketplace solutions
