Job summary

Vega Federal is hiring backend software engineers to build, secure, and run enterprise API solutions for critical federal missions in Richardson, TX. You will work with Java, Linux, and Broadcom Layer 7 API Gateways in an Agile team delivering production-ready software.

Mid Level and Senior roles differ in scope: mid builds and maintains, while senior architects, leads, mentors, and shapes gateway design, security, and CI/CD practices. Onsite relocation available.

Qualifications

• Active Top Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship required.
• Active CompTIA Security+ certification required before start.
• Hands-on experience with Broadcom Layer 7 API Gateways in Java/Linux.
• Willingness to work 100% onsite in Richardson, TX or relocate.

Responsibilities

• Mid Level (4+ years): $135,000 to $160,000 per year
• Senior (8+ years): $160,000 to $200,000 per year

About the Role

Vega Federal is hiring backend software engineers to build, secure, and run enterprise API solutions for critical federal missions. You will work in Java, Linux, and Broadcom Layer 7 API Gateways, on an Agile team that ships real, production ready software.

We have two openings at each level. Mid Level engineers build and maintain. Senior engineers architect, lead, and mentor.

What You'll Do

All levels:

• Develop, integrate, and maintain backend services using Java and network programming
• Configure, author policy for, integrate, and troubleshoot Broadcom Layer 7 API Gateways
• Write Linux automation, utility, and deployment scripts
• Manage API authentication, digital certificates, SSL/TLS, and secure routing across multitier networks
• Work with Agile teams to deliver resilient software on schedule

Senior engineers also:

• Architect and optimize mission critical backend services and integration pipelines
• Lead Layer 7 policy authoring, custom assertion development, and gateway architecture
• Design CI/CD and deployment workflows for seamless system integration
• Drive security implementations including OAuth2, SAML, JWT, and mutual TLS (mTLS)
• Mentor junior and mid level engineers and set the bar for code quality, security, and performance

What You Bring

Required for both levels:

• Active Top Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship
• Active CompTIA Security+
• Hands on experience with Broadcom Layer 7 API Gateways
• Solid network programming and network security fundamentals
• Ability to work 100% onsite in Richardson, TX, or willingness to relocate
• Clear written and verbal communication

By level:

• Mid Level: 4+ years of professional software engineering experience in Java, network programming, and Linux
• Senior: 8+ years of professional experience in senior backend Java architecture, enterprise system integration, and enterprise API design. Deep experience architecting and maintaining Layer 7 in complex environments. Strong technical leadership.

Nice to Have

Both levels:

• Knowledge of OAuth2, SAML, JWT, digital certificates, and secure routing
• Python scripting and Linux system administration
• AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes
• DevSecOps and Agile/Scrum experience
• Enterprise identity and access management, PKI, and API security governance
• Experience architecting AWS cloud native applications
• Experience building DevSecOps practices into the SDLC
