Job summary

Bitpanda is seeking an engineer for its Prime Services team to design, build, and scale the low-latency back-end systems powering our margin trading ecosystem. You will own critical infrastructure spanning leverage, collateral management, real-time risk, and automated liquidation engines.

Collaborating with product, quantitative, and risk teams, you will help shape how clients access leverage and how Bitpanda manages credit risk at scale.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software development experience with Micronaut/Spring Boot and Java 17+.
• Strong REST API design and performance optimization experience.
• Practical knowledge of message-oriented middleware (Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS or ZeroMQ).
• CI/CD and cloud familiarity (AWS; Kubernetes is a plus).

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, resilient back-end services in Java and Micronaut/Spring Boot.
• Ensure high test coverage (80% unit, end-to-end, integration).
• Optimize payment modules for reliability, performance and scalability.
• Mentor junior developers and drive backend innovation and best practices.

Your mission

As an Engineer within Bitpanda s Prime Services team, you will design, build, and scale the low-latency, highly available back-end systems powering our margin trading ecosystem. You will own critical infrastructure spanning leverage and collateral management, real-time risk assessment, and automated liquidation engines. Collaborating closely with product, quantitative, and risk teams, your work will directly shape how clients access leverage and how Bitpanda manages credit risk at scale.

What you ll do

• Design and develop scalable, resilient, message-driven services using Java 25 & Micronaut,
• Write clean and future proof code with 80% unit test test coverage, end to end and integration testing before deploying into event driven microservices architecture
• Optimise payment modules/services to ensure reliability, maintainability, performance and scalability
• Drive innovation by researching and adopting the latest trends and technologies in backend development, ensuring our applications remain cutting-edge
• Be a technical mentor for junior developers, providing guidance and support to help them grow and excel in their careers

Who you are

• 4+ years of experience of software development using modern frameworks such as Micronaut/Spring Boot, with Java 17+ as your main programming language
• Good understanding of relational and non-relational databases (bonus points for experience with Postgres and MongoDB)
• Experience creating and maintaining publicly available REST APIs with a keen understanding of performance optimisation and scalability
• Practical knowledge in using message-oriented middleware as we re working with event driven microservices (ideally Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS or ZeroMQ)
• Good understanding of CI/CD: familiarity with AWS and Kubernetes is ideal but any public cloud experience is fine
