Wireless Connectivity Software Engineer – Automotive
Position Overview
Our client is developing next-generation software-defined vehicle technology and is expanding its Connectivity engineering organization. They are seeking a Software Engineer with strong wireless networking expertise and advanced modern C++ skills to develop and enhance the WiFi software capabilities within its vehicle platforms.
This role focuses on embedded connectivity software, with an emphasis on WiFi/802.11 technologies, networking, vehicle connectivity, and integration with wireless hardware and software platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, enhance, and support embedded software responsible for WiFi connectivity, configuration, and connection management within vehicle systems.
- Build and maintain WiFi Station (STA) functionality to support reliable, high-speed vehicle internet connectivity for applications such as:
- Over-the-air (OTA) software updates
- Connected vehicle functionality
- Develop WiFi Access Point (AP) capabilities supporting vehicle hotspot functionality as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity between personal devices and the vehicle's infotainment environment.
- Implement and support advanced IEEE 802.11 capabilities across automotive WiFi systems.
- Develop and improve connectivity logic and algorithms for network selection, roaming, and concurrent STA/AP operation, particularly in complex or unpredictable RF environments.
- Architect modular and maintainable software capable of supporting multiple WiFi chipsets, hardware configurations, and technology generations.
- Integrate WiFi chipset and module vendor components, including drivers, firmware, and software development kits (SDKs), and work directly with vendors to investigate and resolve technical issues.
- Diagnose and resolve wireless connectivity problems using over-the-air packet captures, vehicle logs, system telemetry, and other debugging techniques.
- Partner with engineers across Infotainment, UX, Platform, Security, Factory, and Hardware organizations to develop a scalable and reliable vehicle connectivity platform.
- Establish and maintain high software quality through unit testing, including GTest and GMock, along with adherence to established C++ development and coding practices.
Required Qualifications
