Job summary

EVgo is seeking a Software Engineer III with a security focus to lead key components of our charging platform. You will shape the technical roadmap, mentor engineers, and collaborate with Product, Data, and Design to align security with business goals.

You will design and implement security controls for public-facing services, API protection, and the software supply chain, while growing a high-performance, blameless engineering culture.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 6 years with a Master’s; or a PhD with 3 years of experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in CS or related field; equivalent experience accepted.

Software Engineer III – Security Specialist

Position Summary

The Software team at EVgo is dedicated to developing robust and scalable software solutions that enhance the charging experience for our customers and partners while keeping systems secure. We are in search of a technically proficient, hands‑on Software Engineer who is passionate about our mission. In this role, you will take the lead in driving key components of our platform and shaping its technical roadmap across the engineering organization. Collaboration with various teams including Engineering, Product, Data, and Marketing will ensure alignment of technical strategy with organizational objectives. An ideal candidate is a Software Engineer with a strong security specialization. In this role you’ll have significant impact on security posture across our platform.

Responsibilities

  • Driving security design and best practices across cloud, platform, and client implementations.
  • Crafting, deploying, and expanding vital engineering components and services to align with EVgo's strategic goals.
  • Collaborating with Product and Design teams across functions to assess trade-offs and deliver solutions necessary for developing groundbreaking products and services.
  • Working as part of cross‑functional engineering teams to deliver complete software solutions.
  • Providing technical guidance and advocating for availability, scalability, operational excellence, and cost efficiency.
  • Offering mentorship and conducting code reviews to support the growth of engineers within the team.
  • Contributing your expertise to greenfield projects, catalyzing innovation and driving forward‑thinking solutions.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent experience.

Desired Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Prior experience in the identity, authorization, billing domains is highly desirable.
  • Designing ReBAC authorization models on OpenFGA is preferred.
  • Proficiency with AWS, IoT, and compliance concerns
  • A forward‑looking view of the evolving security landscape. Understanding of the threats and opportunities posed by AI preferred.
  • Led substantial initiatives from inception to completion, driving significant improvements in security posture or practices
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing security strategies for public‑facing software products, spanning API protection, client/backend communication, and software supply chain. Experience in working with the node.js ecosystem is strongly preferred.
  • Iterative hardening of existing systems and proactive assessment of future risk.
  • Possess an architectural mindset with a keen eye for detail and the ability to communicate effectively, enabling roadmap prioritization and informed engineering decisions.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices, observability, and monitoring tools.
  • Capability to collaborate with peers across Software Engineering, Product, and additional teams.
  • Experience in maintaining, analyzing, and debugging Node.js services in production environments.
