Job summary

Walmart Global Tech is seeking an Android developer to build and maintain Kotlin/Java-based apps. You will work closely with Product, UX, and Engineering to translate requirements into scalable Android solutions, follow MVVM and Clean Architecture, write tests, and support CI/CD and telemetry.

Opportunities to leverage AI-assisted tools and enhance performance exist. The role requires 2–4 years of Android experience, a CS/engineering degree, and familiarity with REST APIs and cloud platforms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field.
  • 2–4 years of Android development experience.
  • Proficiency in Kotlin and/or Java.
  • Experience with Android SDK, Jetpack libraries, and REST APIs.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot).

Responsibilities

  • Participate in discovery and design for features with Product/UX/Engineering.
  • Translate requirements into Android solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Android apps.
  • Follow MVVM/Clean Architecture patterns and coding standards.
  • Write unit tests and support testing.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis.
  • Support CI/CD processes and releases.
  • Implement telemetry, logging, and performance monitoring.
  • Leverage AI tools to improve code quality and efficiency.
  • Communicate status and risks to stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance to 1–2 engineers as needed.

What you'll do...

About Team:
Our team works closely with our US stores and eCommerce business to better serve customers by empowering team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation. From groceries and entertainment to sporting goods and crafts, Walmart U.S. offers an extensive selection that our customers value, whether they shop online at Walmart.com, through one of our mobile apps, or in-store. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.

What you'll do:

  • Participate in discovery and design for small-to-medium features by partnering with Product, UX, and Engineering teams.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into scalable Android solutions.
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Android applications using Kotlin/Java and modern Android frameworks.
  • Follow established architecture patterns (MVVM/Clean Architecture) and coding standards.
  • Write unit tests and support integration and regression testing.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Support CI/CD processes and release activities.
  • Implement telemetry, logging, and performance monitoring enhancements.
  • Leverage AI-powered development tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, Copilot) to improve engineering efficiency and code quality.
  • Communicate status, risks, and blockers clearly to stakeholders.
  • Provide task-level guidance to 1-2 engineers, including offshore associates, as needed.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-4 years of Android development experience.
  • Proficiency in Kotlin and/or Java.
  • Experience with Android SDK, Jetpack libraries, and REST API integration.
  • Understanding of Agile development methodology.
  • Experience with unit testing and debugging tools.
  • Exposure to AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot, etc.).
  • PreferredQualifications:
  • Experience with Jetpack Compose.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of mobile performance optimization and monitoring.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS/Azure).
  • Understanding of secure coding practices and data privacy standards.
