Aflac, Incorporated is seeking a Software Engineer III in the United States for a hybrid role. The position requires extensive software development experience with modern languages and Scrum/DevOps practices, plus mentoring of junior developers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field; 4+ years of programming experience.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
• Experience with Assembler, WebSphere, Web Service Development, microservices and RAML/RESTful APIs.
• Prior experience leading medium projects.
• AI exposure: Copilot, Kiro, Q, Claude Code.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, test, development and optimization of customer-facing applications.
• Collaborate in advanced stages of Scrum to ensure delivery.
• Enforce and improve code quality focusing on resilience, data, and security.
• Evaluate and incorporate modern programming languages and tools.
• Implement test-driven development practices.
• Adhere to coding standards for resilience, data, and security.
• Review system requirements; code, test, debug and implement software solutions.
• Participate in planning with clients, BAs and team to analyze requirements.
• Test and implement modules from several systems to meet client needs.
• Provide design recommendations; write/moderate design specifications.
• Make moderate to complex modifications per specifications and standards.
• Perform other duties as required.

Opportunity: Software Engineer III

Salary Range: $105,000-$155,000

Worker Designation – This role is hybrid . This means you will be expected to report to one of our Aflac offices located in Columbus, GA for at least 60% of the work week. You will work from your home (within the continental US) for the remaining portion of the work week. Details of this schedule will be discussed with your leadership.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead the design, test, development and optimization of customer-facing applications
• Collaborate in advanced stages of Scrum, ensuring smooth software delivery.
• Enforce and improve code quality standards, particularly concerning resilience, data, and security.
• Evaluate and incorporate modern programming languages and tools
• Implement test-driven development best practices
• Adhere to coding standards for resilience, data, and security
• Reviews system requirements and business processes; codes, tests, debugs and implements software solutions
• Participates in project planning sessions with clients, business analysts, and team members to analyze development requirements and make recommendations for moderate to complex systems
• Tests and implements application modules from multiple systems the team has developed or modified, ensuring application meets the needs of client and business
• Provides design recommendations, developing and integrating programs per written specifications; occasionally responsible for writing moderate to complex design specifications
• Makes moderate to complex modifications to existing software applications and modules in accordance with written specifications and division standards
• Performs other duties as required

Total Rewards

The salary range for this job is $105,000 to $155,000. This range is specific to the job and salary offers consider a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and peer compensation. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Aflac at the time of the posting.

At Aflac, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role to allow for future and continued salary growth, and compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate.
