Grainger is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Software Engineer III) within the Data Sharing team of the Product Information Management organization. You will design, code, configure, test, and support applications that deliver on time and within budget, mentoring juniors and collaborating with product managers to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.

The role focuses on APIs and event streams for product data, requiring Java, Spring Boot, and modern data tech.

Compensation

The anticipated base pay compensation range for this position is $112,900.00 – $188,100.00. This role is eligible for an incentive target of up to 10% or $, based on the achievement of individual and company performance objectives in accordance with the current terms of the incentive program which are subject to change.

Position Details

As a Senior Software Engineer (Software Engineer III) on the Data Sharing team in the Product Information Management organization, you will be involved in the full systems life cycle and responsible for designing, coding, configuring, testing, implementing and supporting application software and systems that are delivered on time and within budget. In addition to mentoring junior engineers, you will work closely with technical teams, stakeholders and product managers to understand the business requirements that drive the analysis and physical design of technical solutions. The Data Sharing team is responsible for building and operating APIs and event streams to make product data available to all of Grainger.

You Will

• Develop end-to-end services (including APIs and stream processing) using Java and Spring Boot
• Build applications and develop product design solutions in partnership with engineers, architects, and analysts leading to scalable and maintainable software solutions
• Utilize specialized skills based on specific platform or domain as required
• Implement continuous delivery activities (CICD) and drive engineering best practices
• Support team activities and pair with peers to work on stories
• Coach and mentor junior engineers
• Consistently practice sensible defaults (TDD, pair programming, trunk-based development)
• Participate in on-call rotation

You Have

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
• 3+ years experience with modern software engineering; designing, building, and deploying scalable software applications
• Understanding of distributed system design
• Experience analyzing and interpreting complex problems and processes
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps practices
• Experience with Java
• Experience with Spring Boot, Kafka, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Terraform, and DataDog
