Job summary

RTX is seeking a Software Engineer II for our McKinney, Texas campus. The role focuses on designing, developing, and releasing real-time software for the MTS-A product line within an agile environment. Onsite work is required with occasional travel up to 20% to support both DoD and commercial programs.

Ideal candidates have a STEM degree and at least two years of relevant experience in C++ real-time systems, with familiarity of embedded software stacks and lab environments. U.S.

The Software organization develops the applications that drive missiles, launchers, radars, naval systems, fire control and other complex systems, as well as the integration and test software. These applications integrate firmware, operating systems, device drivers, networking, and control software to bring together sensor, guidance, and flight control capabilities to complete the mission. As a Software Engineer II you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and releasing software for the MTS-A product line in a fast-paced Agile environment.

What You Will Do

• Support all aspects of a software development life cycle as members of an embedded software team. This will include supporting new and legacy military and commercial programs from concept and requirements, to design, development, integration, test, and potentially subsequent maintenance tasking.
• Use and provide creative solutions to complex technical system and software integration problems.
• Work onsite at McKinney, TX
• This position will require occasional business-related travel up to 20%.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant engineering experience.
• Experience in developing, testing, and integrating real-time software applications written in C++ or closely related software languages.
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance.
• Experience working in lab environments with physical hardware (e.g., test benches, simulators)
• Development experience in VxWorks or other Real Time Operating Systems.
• Experience with Ada programming language.
• Ability to quickly understand and navigate complex systems and established code bases.
• Experience with product development utilizing the Scrum techniques of the Agile software development process.
• Hands‑on experience with Git for version control.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
