Job summary

URBN is hiring a Software Engineer to join the Enterprise Core Services team. You will work on a Kafka-based event streaming platform and migrate legacy enterprise systems to modern cloud-native services.

You will collaborate with senior engineers, product managers, and platform engineers to deliver reliable, well-tested integration services, while growing skills in distributed systems and enterprise integration.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Python and building/maintaining services or APIs.
• Exposure to event-driven systems or message queues; Kafka is a plus but not required.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP preferred) and modern CI/CD practices.
• Comfort using agentic coding tools as part of daily workflow.
• Strong written communication and careful code-review habits.
• Eagerness to learn distributed systems and integration patterns.

Responsibilities

• Implement and maintain services that participate in our Kafka-based event streaming architecture under guidance.
• Build and support enterprise integration services for migrating from legacy platforms.
• Write and maintain automated tests and participate in code reviews.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Platform Engineers, and other Software Engineers on day-to-day work.
• Investigate and fix defects surfaced during development, testing, or production support.
• Contribute to documentation for the services and patterns you work on.
• Learn and apply Kafka topic design, schema evolution, and service migration patterns.
