Job summary

Bosch Building Technologies North America seeks a Software Engineer II to develop and support integrated Building Management, Automation, and Energy Management Systems. You will work on HVAC controls, networking, and system integration, including commissioning and customer support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in HVAC Controls/ System engineering roles.
  • Experience with Building systems: HVAC, Plumbing, Mechanical, or Electrical.
  • BMS software programming experience.
  • Knowledge of BACnet and Modbus protocols.
  • Experience with electronic test equipment (Volt/Amp meters, Oscilloscopes).

  • Provide controls data, graphics, programming for contract sequences.
  • Develop software for integrated building automation or energy management systems.
  • Design and implement building automation and energy management solutions.

Job description

Position Overview

Bosch is seeking Software Engineer II professionals to develop and support integrated Building Management Systems (BMS), Building Automation Systems (BAS), and Energy Management Systems (EMS). The role combines software engineering, HVAC controls, networking, systems integration, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer support.


Key Responsibilities


  • Provide controls database, graphics, programming, etc. for contract sequences as provided by the Design Specialist, project specifications, or other applicable sources

  • Develop the software necessary for a comprehensive integrated building automation system or energy management system

  • Design and implement integrated building automation and energy management solutions.

  • Integrate third‑party systems using protocols such as MQTT and RESTful APIs.

  • Work with other building equipment suppliers to resolve issues as they arise.

  • Develop project reports to measure building analytics and provide energy savings recommendations

  • Support installation and startup personnel with adjustments to software as required

  • Support field teams with system data communication trouble shooting using protocol analyzers like WireShark and Visual BACnet

  • As required, attend project coordination meetings and provide technical support Provide site specific customer training on projects

  • Provide information and support for other contractors on project site

  • Debug mechanical and installation issues that can come up when executing the static and dynamic start up and commissioning of building controls

  • Develop branch standards for building management system software and client graphic user interface systems

  • Develop enhancements to existing office standards to increase functionality and efficiency

  • Provide new product support and training to employee personnel

  • Provide service support on existing systems ensuring proper and efficient operation as well as providing ongoing support to the facility's building engineers

  • Work with the internal project design engineers and outside engineer consultant firms to resolve project design issues and suggest project enhancements

  • Participate in the transition between Operations Team and Service Team

  • Support the sales team during project bid and estimating process, including potential customer system demonstrations

  • Mentor and train junior software engineers on products, software and processes

  • Complete time sheets, service work orders, and other paperwork required for this position in an accurate and timely manner


Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, HVAC Controls, or a related field

  • 5 years of experience as a System Specialist, System Engineer, or similar HVAC Controls Engineering role.

  • Applicants must have experience with Building systems, including:

    • HVAC, Plumbing, Mechanical systems or Electrical systems

    • HVAC control strategies

    • BMS (Building Management System) software programming

    • Network switch design and programming

    • BACnet and Modbus protocols

    • Electronic test equipment, including:

      • Volt meters

      • Amp meters

      • Oscilloscopes





Preferred Qualifications


  • Field experience in a construction environment is an asset

  • Certified in at least 1 building automation controls systems manufacturer, Niagara N4 preferred.


Physical Demands


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, climb, walk, sit, push, pull, squat, crawl, and stoop. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel objects, and type on keyboard; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The use of power tools will be required to effectively perform this position. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may be required to work at heights over 1.8m (6 feet)


Working Conditions


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, work on job sites, may be required to travel to and from job site locations, may work in a typical office environment, and is occasionally exposed to construction equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Confined space entry may be required. High work may be required.


Additional Information


  • Working Hours: This position generally works Monday- Friday, overtime and on call when necessary

  • Pay Rate: $100,000 - $150,000 (DOE)

  • Travel Requirements: local travel only
