Job summary

Komatsu is seeking a Software Engineer II to design, build, and operate critical software services powering automation products for mine sites worldwide. You will partner with product, hardware, and operations teams to deliver features across distributed autonomous services, while mentoring junior engineers and promoting scalable, high-quality solutions.

The role requires strong OO design, REST API experience, and a track record of automated testing within CI/CD pipelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software/Systems Engineering, or related discipline; Master's preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• 2+ years of professional software development experience building and delivering complex software systems to customers.
• Strong programming skills and proficiency applying object oriented design patterns and clean code practices.
• Experience with REST APIs.
• Experience across the full software development life cycle including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, automated testing, and production operations.
• Hands on experience developing automated tests at the unit, integration, contract, and system level and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to instrument and monitor services and apply operational excellence practices to troubleshoot and improve production systems.
• Understanding of security and data privacy best practices and ability to apply them in system design and implementation.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and influence technical decisions within the team.
• Experience with event driven microservices; familiarity with cloud native deployment patterns and containerization.
• Experience with network protocols, distributed application debugging, and performance analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate mission critical software services that power Komatsu's automation products.
• Lead the definition and delivery of small features across distributed autonomous services such as machine coordination, equipment management, navigation planning, collision detection, and safeguarding.
• The Software Engineer II partners with product, hardware, and operations teams, mentors other engineers, and drives scalable architecture, quality, and operational excellence for mine sites worldwide.
• Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, including occasional international travel.
