Job summary

Uber is seeking a Software Engineer II for its Data and Storage teams in Sunnyvale to architect foundational infrastructure powering business decisions and services for millions of users.

You will design, build, test, and optimize storage and data pipelines, handle high-load reliability, and contribute across lifecycle from development to production monitoring. Remote work may be possible with in-office requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering/Math or related field with 2 years of relevant experience.
• C++, C, Python, Java or Go proficiency.
• SQL or MySQL proficiency.
• Strong data structures and algorithms knowledge.
• Production debugging and monitoring skills.
• Experience with large-scale distributed systems and monitoring.
• Experience with Spark, HDFS, Yarn, and real-time streaming tools (Flink or Kafka).
• Cloud experience with OCI/AWS/GCP/Azure.

About the role and team

Engineering at Uber means building for real-world impact under real-world constraints. As a Software Engineer II on our Data and Storage teams, you will architect the foundational infrastructure that powers business decisions and core services for millions of users. Whether you are scaling distributed storage platforms or building high-performance data pipelines, you will be solving complex challenges at the intersection of low latency, high correctness, and massive scale.

The problems here are messy and the systems are global. You’ll need to make smart decisions with imperfect information, own your work end-to-end, and stay calm when high-load systems are on the line. We are looking for engineers who think in systems, pride themselves on robust monitoring, and believe that the best solutions are built through candid feedback and cross-functional collaboration. Rate of Pay: $171,000 to $209,000 per Year

Basic Qualifications

• Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or in a related occupation.
• Position requires:
  • C++, C, Python, Java, or Go;
  • SQL or MySQL;
  • Data structures and algorithms development and functionality;
  • Debugging and monitoring for production services;
  • Developing or operating high-load, large-scale distributed systems, and building monitoring systems;
  • Experience with big data infrastructure tools and software like Spark, HDFS, and Yarn;
  • Real-time streaming technology, such as Apache Flink, or Kafka.
  • Cloud Services such as OCI, AWS, GCP or Azure.
