Job summary

Uber is seeking a Software Engineer II to design, build, and test backend systems for the Rider Pricing Platform in Seattle. You’ll architect foundational infrastructure powering pricing decisions for millions of users, balancing low latency with high correctness.

You’ll collaborate across teams, own your work end-to-end, and participate in weekly on-call rotations. May telecommute; strong problem-solving and system‑level thinking are essential.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, Mathematics, Physics, or related field with 3 years of experience.
• Proficiency in C++, Python, Java, Git or SVN.
• SQL or MySQL knowledge and SQL querying ability.
• Strong understanding of data structures and algorithms.
• Experience designing technology stacks and debugging production services.
• Experience with distributed systems and SDLC.
• Familiarity with full‑stack development and Spring Framework.
• Experience with Kafka for data streaming.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test software in Rider Pricing Platform using Uber tech stack.
• Evaluate complex data and projects to provide technical recommendations.

About the role and team

As a Software Engineer II, you will architect the foundational infrastructure that powers business decisions and core services for millions of users. Whether you are scaling distributed storage platforms or building high-performance data pipelines, you will be solving complex challenges at the intersection of low latency, high correctness, and massive scale.

The problems here are messy and the systems are global. You’ll need to make smart decisions with imperfect information, own your work end-to-end, and stay calm when high-load systems are on the line. Rate of Pay: $204,500 to $209,000 per Year

What you’ll do

• Design, develop, and/or test software applications using company technology stack in the Rider Pricing Platform team.


• Apply technical knowledge to evaluate complex data, developments, and projects in order to provide recommendations to resolve technical issues.


• Support the company's business operations and improve engineering productivity.


• Build software components that can be integrated into a fully functional software system.


• Solve production issues in product and system reliability.


• Design and implement backend solutions for algorithmic pricing in the Rider Pricing Platform team.


• Participate in weekly on-call rotations.


• Collaborate with stakeholders on project related to rider pricing.


• May telecommute.

Basic Qualifications

• Employer will accept a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering (Any), Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, or related field and 3 years of experience in the job offered or in a related occupation.
