Job summary

Compass is hiring a Software Engineer II to join its fast-growing engineering team in New York. You will design and build distributed, event-driven microservices that power the end-to-end real estate platform, enabling agents to serve buyers and sellers with high quality experiences.

The role emphasizes ownership, code reviews, testing, and documentation, with an opportunity to work across the real estate journey and collaborate on scalable cloud services leveraging AWS, Azure, or GCP.

Qualifications

• BS in CS or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of software engineering experience with Java or Golang.
• Experience with Kafka and Ruby on Rails is a plus.
• Experience designing and building cloud-based services.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-based services (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization, microservices architecture, and CI/CD.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in a startup-like environment building agile products and services.
• Design and build distributed, event-driven microservices.
• Independently define, decompose, and lead delivery of complex projects.
• Perform code reviews, design reviews, and write high quality tests.
• Become the subject matter expert for one or more services in your domain.
• Create clear and concise documentation (diagrams, service descriptions, decisions, runbooks).
• Own and operationally improve services in your domain throughout their lifecycle.
• Identify and remove bottlenecks to address inefficiencies in the developer experience.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Compensation:

The base pay range for this position is $126,990-$141,100; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Bonuses and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of benefits. Base pay is based on market location. Minimum wage for the position will always be met.
