Job summary

Compass is building a scalable cloud-based platform to empower residential real estate agents across the entire journey from lead to close. The role centers on delivering high-quality, scalable services used by millions of interactions, listings, and transactions in real estate.

You will work in a fast-paced, cross-functional team, lead delivery of complex projects, review code, write tests, and document service decisions while improving developer experience across platforms.

Qualifications

• BS in CS or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of software engineering experience with languages such as Java or Golang.
• Experience with Kafka and Ruby on Rails is a plus.
• Experience designing and building cloud-based services.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-based services (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization, microservices architecture, and CI/CD.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in a startup-like environment building agile products and services.
• Design and build distributed, event-driven microservices.
• Independently define, decompose, and lead delivery of complex projects.
• Perform code reviews, design reviews, and write high quality tests.
• Become the subject matter expert for one or more services in your domain.
• Create clear and concise documentation (diagrams, service descriptions, decisions, runbooks).
• Own and operationally improve services in your domain throughout their lifecycle.
• Identify and remove bottlenecks to address inefficiencies in the developer experience.
