Job summary

Thunderbolt Solutions is hiring a Software Engineer 1 in New Jersey. You will work in a small, flexible company focused on defense and commercial markets, applying agile methods to design, implement, test, and integrate software.

The role requires 0–2 years of real-time development, OO design experience, and programming in Java/C++/Python across Windows, Solaris, and Linux. U.S. citizenship and security clearance are prerequisites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in engineering/computing fields.
• U.S. Citizenship required and ability to obtain/maintain a government secret clearance.
• 0–2 years in real‑time mission‑critical development, maintenance, or support in open/layered architectures.
• Experience with OO design/development including patterns and plugins.
• Experience Java/C++/Python in Windows, Solaris, Linux environments.
• Experience with Solaris/Unix scripts; familiarity with Eclipse and UML; test environments.
• Familiarity with ClearCase, JIRA, xUnit/JUnit/CPPUnitLite, and CMMI level 5 processes.

Responsibilities

Work in a collaborative team using agile development methodology, performing tasks such as subsystem definition, preliminary and detailed design, design implementation, subsystem and system integration, and testing. Participate in software requirements review, preliminary and critical design reviews, integration readiness review, and software acceptance reviews. Research problems and develop solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, or related field) or equivalent work experience
• U.S. Citizenship required and ability to obtain and maintain a government secret clearance
• 0–2 years experience in real‑time mission‑critical development, maintenance, or support in an Open/Layered Architecture Environment, operating environments, model‑based tools, information assurance, tools development, safety analysis, real‑time system data analysis, problem analysis, or system integration
• Experience with object‑oriented design/development, including design patterns, software insulation techniques, and plugins
• Experience developing software with Java, C++, or Python in Windows, Solaris, and Linux environments
• Experience developing Solaris and other Unix scripts; strong skills with MS Office and IDEs such as Eclipse; familiarity with UML syntax, driver‑based and automated test environments
• Familiarity with clearcase (Version Control), JIRA (Project Management), xUnit framework, JUnit, CPPUnitLite, CMMI Level 5 Life Cycle Processes, and Assemblers is a plus

Compensation Statement (New Jersey Pay Transparency Notice)

In accordance with New Jersey's pay transparency requirements, the anticipated annual salary for this position is between $72,000 and $100,000. Final compensation will depend on several factors, including job responsibilities, experience, education, certifications, skills, internal alignment, prevailing market rates, and may include a discretionary bonus.
