Job summary

Nightwing is hiring a junior software engineer in a hybrid role at our Sterling, VA location. You will assist in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications, and build user interfaces using visualization tech.

You’ll write clean code under guidance, debug issues, and participate in reviews with cross-functional teams. We expect ongoing learning in best practices, strong teamwork, and solid communication.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in CS/SE or related field.
• Strong foundation in at least one programming language (Java, Python, C++, or JavaScript).
• Familiarity with Git version control.
• Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software applications.
• Build user interfaces leveraging various visualization technologies.
• Write clean, scalable, and efficient code under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Debug and troubleshoot issues in existing software.
• Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and pair programming sessions.

• Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies.

Basic qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong foundation in at least one programming language such as Java, Python, C++, or JavaScript.
• Basic understanding of software development principles and data structures.
• Familiarity with version control systems like Git.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred skills:

• Familiarity with at least one visualization framework (React.js, Angular.js, Node.js, et).
• Ability to manipulate and extract data with SQL/NOSQL queries.
• Experience with Databricks platform.
• Exposure to Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) concepts.
• Experience with Cloud Infrastructure (AWS and/or Azure).

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field) or equivalent experience.

Experience:

• Less than 2 years of prior relevant experience.

Desired Certifications:

• The candidate may possess one or more of the following certifications:
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals
• AWS Certified Developer – Associate
• Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE Programmer
• CompTIA IT Fundamentals (ITF+)
• Software development methodology certification (e.g. SCRUM Master) highly desired.
• GitHub or GitLab Certifications

• This is a hybrid position, and the selected candidate will be required to periodically work at our Nightwing Location (Sterling, VA).

Salary & Benefits

The salary associated with this position ($55,000-$106,000) is commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications, years of relevant experience, and demonstrated level of expertise. Compensation will be determined based on these factors to ensure alignment with skills, responsibilities, and market standards.
