TikTok in San Jose is seeking a backend engineer to drive the next-generation AI Agent-powered growth platform for advertisers and users. You will embed AI reasoning, multimodal perception, and autonomous decision-making into the advertising lifecycle, from creation to measurement.

Responsible for building the next-generation AI Agent-powered intelligent growth platform that serves millions of advertisers and reaches billions of users every day. We are embedding LLM reasoning, multimodal perception, and autonomous decision-making directly into the full advertising lifecycle — from ad creation and creative generation to bidding strategy, attribution, and measurement, helping businesses worldwide efficiently connect with customers and achieve commercial success on TikTok.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect & build AI Agent systems.
• Work on backend development of TikTok's proprietary CRM platform.
• Build enterprise-grade solutions serving millions of customers and supporting billions in revenue.
• Build a globalized CRM System with high performance and availability across multiple regions.
• Collaborate cross-functionally: Work closely with Product, Operations, Sales, and Data Science teams to utilize AI capabilities into measurable growth outcomes.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Individuals who are completing or have recently completed a Bachelor's or Mster's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with AI Agents and Multi-Agent workflows (e.g., autonomous task execution, agent collaboration).
• Deep familiarity with engineering patterns such as MCP (Model Context Protocol), RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), and Code Embedding.
• Experience with big data components including Spark, OLAP engines and Flink is a plus, but not required.
• Familiarity with Elastic Search and key/value stores (Redis, Memcached etc) is a plus.
• Familiarity with Message Queue (Kafka, RabbitMQ, RocketMQ etc) is a plus.
• Familiarity with CRM platforms and Ad Sales automated processes is a plus.
• Experience with Java is preferred.
• Experience with Spring Boot and/or other Microservice frameworks is preferred.
• Experience with relational databases (MySQL, Postgres etc) is preferred.

【For Pay Transparency】Compensation Description (Annually)

The base salary range for this position in the selected city is $128000 - $256000 annually.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses/incentives, and restricted stock units.

Benefits may vary depending on the nature of employment and the country work location. Employees have day one access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) savings plan with company match, paid parental leave, short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, wellbeing benefits, among others. Employees also receive 10 paid holidays per year, 10 paid sick days per year and 17 days of Paid Personal Time (prorated upon hire with increasing accruals by tenure).
