Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. (SEL) in Boise, ID seeks an Engineer to design, implement, and test firmware and software systems, working closely with hardware engineers and testing cross‑functional interfaces.

You will mentor Associate Engineers and Technicians, prepare design and test documentation, and uphold SEL Values and World Class Manufacturing Principles while contributing to a dynamic, growth‑oriented team.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Typically 2+ years in GUI apps (Windows) with OOD and OO languages (C++, C#, Delphi, Java).
  • Embedded Linux systems development with C, C++, Python and scripting.
  • Embedded firmware development with real-time design, C and assembly.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in design, implementation, and test of firmware/software systems.
  • Understand hardware and software interactions; collaborate with Hardware Engineers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include

Required Qualifications Include
  • B.S. in Computer Science, or equivalent Typically 2+ years experience in one or more of the following areas- Graphical User Interface applications in Windows environments including: Object oriented design and object oriented languages (C++, C#, Delphi, Java) Embedded Linux systems development including: C, C++, Python and other scripting languages, Embedded systems firmware development including: Real-time firmware design and C and assembly languages
Preferred Qualifications Include
  • Industrial controls 3-phase electric power systems Modern communications protocols Digital and analog circuitry Digital communications and signal processing Project management

Pay Range Data - $97,700 - $130,300 annually We set starting pay based on job-related factors such as your experience, training, knowledge, and skills. We are looking to fill this position at the Engineer level, and we welcome applicants with a range of experience. Depending on your background, we may consider you for a different level, with compensation aligned accordingly. Associate Software Engineer: $84,200 - $112,300 annually Software Engineer: $97,700 - $130,300 annually Lead Software Engineer: $115,300 - $153,700 annually
