Job summary

Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield in Des Moines, IA seeks a Software Engineer to join the Digital Workforce team. You will design, build, and support automation, AI, data, and modern workplace tools to help employees work more efficiently.

Qualifications

• Strong analytical problem‑solving skills. Accuracy and high attention to detail.
• Previous experience troubleshooting and developing creative technical solutions.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships to reach outcomes and communicate to stakeholders.
• Ability to coach/mentor team members and work in a fast-paced environment.

Job Description

As a Software Engineer supporting the Digital Workforce team, you will help design, build, and support solutions that enable employees across Wellmark to work more efficiently through automation, AI, data, and modern workplace technologies. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will contribute to developing and enhancing tools that improve business processes, increase productivity, and deliver meaningful value to our employees and customers. In this role, you will partner with other engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to understand requirements, solve technical challenges, and deliver scalable solutions using Microsoft’s modern technology ecosystem. You will participate throughout the software development lifecycle, helping design, develop, test, deploy, and support applications, automations, and reporting solutions. You will gain hands‑on experience with technologies such as Microsoft 365, Power Platform, Copilot, and other emerging automation and AI tools. As technology continues to evolve, you will be encouraged to learn new capabilities, explore innovative solutions, and apply best practices to support business needs while maintaining security and quality standards. Working closely with senior engineers and platform leaders, you will help ensure solutions align with established architecture, governance, and compliance requirements. • Provide development and/or production support for key software applications and systems. Define, analyze, estimate, develop, test, implement, document, and maintain programs and systems that meet business requirements.
• Contribute to solutions architecture deliverables and decisions, through interpretation of architectural diagrams as inputs to the design deliverable. Apply the reference architecture, contribute to reusable assets, and produce technical specifications sufficient for development teams.
• Partner and problem‑solve with the UX team in the development of solutions that improve the user experience, pass minimum accessibility or usability criteria.
• Work to resolve technical problems for on premise, cloud native, and hybrid applications and solutions.
• Support the gathering of information, necessary research needed for root cause analysis, problem definition and formulation, solution implementation, verification, and ongoing optimization. Provide analysis of defects to find root cause.
• Provide recommended solution(s) that promote successful delivery of business project objectives or production support objectives and support benefits realization.
• Identify issues and think through challenges in the form of options and solutions. Partner with others to identify resolutions to known issues, impacts to project or production outcomes if not resolved, and determine when to elevate when necessary.
• Communicate and provide regular updates and key information in a timely manner to leadership as well as the appropriate stakeholder audience. Collaborate and work as a team to accomplish goals and/or solve problems.
