Job Description

This role is for a software developer to serve on a Simulation Engineering team at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Johnson Space Center (JSC). The position supports the development and maintenance of the Training Systems (TS) applications supporting the Orion Simulation Framework systems within the facility.

Description of Duties

This position provides software engineering support to the Training Systems (TS) Facility at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Johnson Space Center (JSC) located in Houston, Texas. The software engineer will be responsible for the software development and maintenance of the real-time Orion Simulation Framework systems in the TS facility. This position includes Agile software methodology using engineering and computer programming skills primarily in C++. The software engineer will be required to perform the software development, maintenance, and integration of the Space Launch System, Orion flight software, and Orion simulation in the TS simulation. The applicant will also be responsible for providing technical support in the analysis and resolution of software-related problems. The applicant will be responsible for supporting critical software systems in the Orion simulation software. The applicant will work with the users to determine requirements, system limitations, impacts and flight-training readiness associated with Orion simulations. The applicant must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written. Strong initiative, teamwork and problem-solving skills required.

Successful candidates will:

• Develop, maintain, troubleshoot software supporting the NASA JSC Training Systems.
• Support the development and maintenance of the Orion Simulation Framework systems.
• Support the design, development, and integration of the Orion systems and associated software interfaces.
• Develop and maintain software using computer programming and experience in C++ in a Linux or UNIX environment.
• Perform software builds and integrate software with other developers.
• Troubleshoot software, builds, configuration, and integration issues.
• Support software testing and verification activities with external partners.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum development activities, including Sprint planning and reviews.
• Work effectively with developers, system engineers, test personnel, technical leads, and other project stakeholders.
• Participate in code reviews and follow established software development processes and procedures.
• Document software changes, technical issues, test results, and procedures.
• Assist with the integration between training, simulation, and external vendors.
• Possess good oral and written communication skills and work effectively and coordinate actions with both internal and external customers.

Job Requirements

Must have the following education and experience: B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or related degree;

Must be able to obtain a NASA Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Badge for NASA credentials

Desired Requirements

• Prior experience with the Mission Training Center and Training Systems is a plus.
• Experience in Python programming and GitLab Configuration Management systems.
• Familiarity with the NASA JSC Trick simulation framework.
• Experience with Agile development methods.
