Job description

About Us:

We're on a mission to make it possible for every person, team, and company to be able to tailor their software to solve any problem and take on any challenge. Computers may be our most powerful tools, but most of us can't build or modify the software we use on them every day. At Notion, we want to change this with focus, design, and craft.

We've been working on this together since 2016, and have customers like OpenAI, Toyota, Figma, Ramp, and thousands more on this journey with us. Today, we're growing fast and excited for new teammates to join us who are the best at what they do. We're passionate about building a company as diverse and creative as the millions of people Notion reaches worldwide.

Notion is an in person company, and currently requires its employees to come to the office for two Anchor Days (Mondays & Thursdays) and requests that employees spend the majority of their week in the office (including a third day).

About The Role:

Millions of people use Notion — and this number is increasing every day. That means millions of people trust us to deliver a fast, reliable, and secure experience, and we value this more than anything. We want to keep earning trust, while also continuing to amaze our users with the tools they can build in Notion.

The Cloud Infrastructure team is a unique opportunity within Notion to architect the foundational cloud environment that can scale alongside Notion’s rapid growth. As an engineer on the team, you'll work on the fundamental infrastructure components that all other teams at Notion build upon and guide Notion through the next few years of growth.

What You'll Achieve:
  • Drive the future of Cloud Infrastructure at Notion—you’ll lead our strategy and execution across compute, networking, and resource orchestration, ensuring our platform scales reliably and securely to serve 100M+ users worldwide. Including container orchestration, cloud cost efficiency, resilience, global expansion across regions while considering compliance and performance.
  • Hands on in building our next-generation self-service platform, partnering with product engineers to enable rapid, reliable deployment with strong guardrails—while reducing friction and increasing velocity across hundreds of developers. You'll be responsible for maintaining a high-quality bar for everything your team ships.
  • Lead by example in operational excellence—you’ll guide the team through high-severity incidents, eliminate our gaps in observability, improve incident response processes, and uphold reliability standards. You’ll participate in a sustainable on-call rotation and help shape Notion’s reliability culture.
Skills You'll Need to Bring:
  • Software Engineer with Cloud Infrastructure Foundation: You are a hands-on software engineer who is an expert in contributing to large codebases and establishing strong patterns in greenfield projects. You bring a test-driven development mindset, carefully consider how your changes will affect production environments, and take steps to validate them. You have expertise with cloud concepts, particularly in networking, compute optimization. You build observability tools to validate changes and programmatically catch regressions.
  • Startup mentality:You are comfortable navigating the fast moving, unstructured nature of a hyper-growth startup. You understand the importance of setting the engineering quality bar for the long term success of our business, but are able to make difficult prioritizations.
  • Pragmatic and business-oriented:You care about business impact and prioritize projects accordingly. You don't just go after cool stuff—you understand the balance between craft, speed, and the bottom line.
Nice to Haves:
  • You have experience working with the following:
    • Cloud Compute and Networking technologies - Cloudflare / AWS
    • Cloud Efficiency - capacity planning, cost attribution
    • Infrastructure as Code Technologies - Terraform / Pulumi / Typescript
  • You are comfortable using AI tools to accelerate impact

We hire talented and passionate people from a variety of backgrounds because we want our global employee base to represent the wide diversity of our customers. If you’re excited about a role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every bullet point listed in the job description, we still encourage you to apply. If you’re a builder at heart, share our company values, and enthusiastic about making software toolmaking ubiquitous, we want to hear from you.

We do not discriminate in hiring or any employment decision based on race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions), marital status, ancestry, physical or mental disability, genetic information, veteran status, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or other applicable legally protected characteristic.
