Job description

HydroJug, Inc. is a consumer brand headquartered in Ogden, Utah, designing and selling premium hydration and lifestyle products. We sell direct-to-consumer and through major retail channels including Amazon, Target, Costco, Walmart, and TikTok Shop. Our team is lean, fast-moving, and building infrastructure that scales with the brand.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Every team at HydroJug — Finance, Operations, Marketing, Sales — depends on reliable, fast data to make decisions. Today that data flows through a set of internal systems that need an owner: someone who can build and maintain the pipelines that bring data in from source platforms, keep the data warehouse current, and ship the dashboard application features that let the business answer its own questions.

As the Software Engineer, BI & Data, you own that full stack. You write the Node.js connectors that pull from ecommerce and operations platforms, maintain the BigQuery data models underneath, and build React-based dashboard features that Finance, Ops, and Marketing run their workflows from. This is a builder role — your work ships, gets used, and directly impacts how the company operates.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Build and maintain Node.js data connectors pulling from source platforms including NetSuite, Shopify, Amazon, TikTok Shop, Walmart, and Gorgias
  • Design and extend pipeline architecture for reliability, observability, and incremental sync patterns
  • Manage watermark-based and event-driven sync strategies to keep the data warehouse current
  • Debug and resolve sync failures, schema drift, and data quality issues across pipeline runs
  • Own the React frontend and Node.js backend of the internal dashboard application
  • Build new dashboard features and data views from stakeholder specs across Finance, Ops, Marketing, and Sales
  • Maintain and evolve existing dashboards; ensure data loads fast, refreshes on schedule, and stays accurate
  • Build self-serve tooling so business users can filter, slice, and export data without engineering support
Data Warehouse & SQL
  • Write performant, well-structured BigQuery SQL that serves as the foundation for dashboard queries
  • Partner with the Data Lead to design and maintain clean, trusted data models
  • Monitor query performance and optimize costs; manage partitioning, clustering, and caching strategies
AI Tooling & Integrations
  • Build and maintain Claude API integrations that support the data team’s workflows
  • Develop AI-powered utilities for data validation, anomaly detection, and automated reporting
  • Extend AI tooling as new data sources and business needs emerge
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3–6 years of professional software development experience in Node.js
  • Demonstrated React experience building data-heavy or dashboard-style UIs
  • Strong SQL skills; able to write complex analytical queries with CTEs, window functions, and aggregations
  • Experience building ETL pipelines or data integration systems connecting third-party APIs to a data warehouse
  • Comfort working across the full stack: API connectors, backend services, and frontend data visualization
  • Ability to translate business requirements into working features without heavy handholding
  • Experience supporting multiple stakeholder teams simultaneously (Finance, Ops, Marketing, etc.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BigQuery experience specifically (vs. other cloud data warehouses)
  • Familiarity with ecommerce or retail data domains: orders, inventory, marketing attribution, P&L
  • Experience with the Anthropic Claude API or other LLM integrations
  • dbt, data modeling, or semantic layer experience
  • Prior experience at a DTC brand, ecommerce operator, or retail company
SUCCESS IN THE FIRST 12 MONTHS
  • All major data source connectors are stable, monitored, and syncing reliably to BigQuery
  • The dashboard application has shipped meaningful new features adopted by at least three business teams
  • Data quality issues are caught automatically before they reach end users
  • Business teams across Finance, Ops, and Marketing can self-serve their core reporting needs without filing engineering requests
  • AI tooling is integrated into at least one repeatable data workflow, reducing manual analyst work
