Job summary

Climax Studios is hiring a fully remote Software Engineer, based in the UK or EU, to join a team of backend engineers working on industry-leading game projects. You will deliver, deploy, and integrate backend services, collaborating with co-dev clients and internal stakeholders to meet project goals and timeframes.

The role emphasizes scalable server backends, CI/CD, documentation, and the ability to adapt to new tools and languages as required by the project.

Qualifications

  • Experience in game development and server backends for AAA games or similar with large concurrent users.
  • Production experience with Java, Golang, C#, C++, or Kotlin.
  • Cloud platforms experience (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure); AWS certification advantageous.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases; distributed applications.
  • Experience with Git or Perforce and other source control tools.
  • Knowledge of Microservices and SOA; Kubernetes and Docker knowledge.
  • Experience building or using CI/CD pipelines to validate and test code.
  • Familiarity with LLMs for data processing and Gen AI for code generation.
  • Ability to create supporting documentation and designs; strong time management and autonomy.

Job description

  • Individual contribution: construct systems, write code, deployments, etc.

  • Work with the team lead and stakeholders to estimate and prioritise work

  • Work alongside peers to iterate on solutions that fit requirements

  • Keep the project lead and producer apprised of revised estimates and delivery times

  • Promote high standards and process: tests, CI/CD, documentation

  • Help and support team members in day-to-day work

  • Understand, maintain and expand existing code and develop new features or systems. Experience in game development and having worked on at least one game title in a commercial setting developing server backends for AAA games, free-to-play (mobile) games, casino apps or similar, with a large number of concurrent users.

  • Production experience with at least one of Java, Golang, C#, C++, Kotlin

  • Experience with one or more cloud platforms: Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure; having an AWS Certification (Associate or above) would be advantageous

  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools, e.g. Terraform

  • Demonstrable database experience with both SQL and NoSQL

  • Experience building distributed applications

  • Experience with Git or Perforce, or other source control software

  • Ability to adapt to new tools, languages, and concepts as required by the project

  • Knowledge of Microservices and Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), especially Kubernetes and Docker

  • Have used or built a CI/CD pipeline to validate and test code

  • An understanding of how to use LLMs to process and query structured and unstructured data

  • Experience using Gen AI for code generation

  • Ability to create supporting documentation, designs, comments, etc

  • Excellent time management and ability to work autonomously

  • Attention to detail with ability to comprehend and follow direction
