Job summary

Tinder is seeking a Backend Engineer in Los Angeles to design, build, and operate scalable distributed services that power the Tinder app. You will own critical components running on Kubernetes or ECS and collaborate with cross-functional teams to expand our service platform.

You should have strong CS fundamentals and experience with Java, Node.js, Go, or C++, plus NoSQL workloads (DynamoDB or Cassandra), Docker, and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure).

Qualifications

• Strong CS fundamentals with data structures and algorithms.
• Experience in backend development with Java, Node.js, Go or C++.
• Desire to design scalable distributed backend systems handling high traffic.
• Experience with NoSQL databases (DynamoDB/Cassandra).
• Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure).
• Knowledge of Redis, Elasticsearch, Kafka, and Spark helpful.
• Proactive, collaborative, and able to translate ambiguous requirements into execution.
• Education: BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent plus 2+ years of experience.

Job description

• As a Backend Engineer at Tinder, you will have an outsized impact and ownership of the most visible aspects of the Tinder App
• We are deeply invested in challenging norms, constantly improving architecture design, exploring emergent tech and ideas, and leveraging new technologies in interesting ways to deliver an app that is widely known the world over
• Design, develop and operate scalable and resilient distributed services that run on Kubernetes or ECS
• Collaborate with various functional teams across Tinder on the expansion of our service platform
• Influence the team roadmap and product development
• Recruit, encourage, and develop other team members
