We're seeking an exceptional Software Engineer, Autonomy to design and implement the decision and control layer at the core of Oureon's autonomy software. You'll be building the systems that make autonomous platforms intelligent — from real-time path planning and motion control to dynamic deconfliction and adaptive decision-making.
This role requires deep technical fluency in Rust and a strong grasp of control theory, optimization, and distributed systems.
What You'll Be Doing
- Design and implement the autonomy decision and control layer, including motion planning, trajectory generation, and collision/deconfliction logic
- Build high-performance, low-latency autonomy modules in Rust
- Develop and optimize algorithms for path planning, constraint-based optimization, and multi-agent coordination
- Integrate autonomy components with our real-time data, messaging, and telemetry systems (NATS JetStream, Redis, PostgreSQL)
- Implement robust state machines, control logic, and behavioral frameworks for autonomous execution
- Collaborate closely with systems and platform engineers to ensure autonomy modules perform predictably across diverse hardware and environments
- Contribute to simulation frameworks and testing infrastructure for validating autonomy behavior
- Profile and tune real-time performance to meet operational constraints
- Participate in architectural reviews, ensuring autonomy systems align with overall platform goals

- Hands-on experience with simulation, modeling, or hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing
- Familiarity with data streaming and telemetry pipelines
Preferred
- Background in robotics, UAVs, mobility, or aerospace autonomy
- Experience with sensor fusion, state estimation, or control feedback loops

What We're Looking For
We're after a builder — someone who doesn't just write algorithms but engineers autonomy systems that function reliably in the real world. This is a deeply technical role with real-world impact, where your work directly defines system behavior and performance.
You'll thrive in this role if you:
- Can translate theory into deployable, real-time autonomy software
- Think in terms of systems, control loops, and optimization under constraints
- Are relentless about performance, reliability, and correctness
- Want to define how modern autonomy is built, deployed, and scaled across platforms
- Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance: 100% of premiums covered for employees, 80% for dependents
- Compensation: Competitive salary with performance-based bonuses
- Equity: Stock options offering real ownership in what you're building
- Retirement: 401(k) plan
- Insurance: Life, short-term, and long-term disability coverage
- Perks: Free daily lunch and dinner, with snacks and drinks stocked in the office
